Catherine Keever Obituary

Dr. Catherine Keever, 94, of 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC, died Friday, May 9, 2003 at Asbury Care Center.
She was born September 8, 1908 in Iredell County, NC and moved from place to place in the Western North Carolina Methodist Conference. Dr. Keever's father was John C. Keever, a Methodist preacher, and her mother was Blanche Monroe Keever of Salisbury, NC. She lived in turn in Olin, Sparta, China Grove, Lenoir, Troutman, Shelby, Cliffside, Stanley, Concord, Lewisville, and Southmont.
She was educated at Davenport College and Duke University. Dr. Keever taught in the public schools of North Carolina at Linwood, Lowell, and Burlington. After her last degree from Duke, she taught biology at Winthrop and Limestone Colleges in South Carolina and botany at the University of Georgia. She finally settled down in 1955 to teach botany and plant ecology at Millersville University in Pennsylvania until she retired in 1974.
Dr. Keever returned to North Carolina and lived in Boonville until she moved to The Methodist Home in Charlotte (Aldersgate) in 1980. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003 in the Ivey Chapel at Aldersgate in Charlotte with the Reverend John Mills officiating. The interment service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hiddenite, NC.
She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, Nancy Keever Andersen, of Mooresville, NC, Mary Keever Pretlow, of High Point, NC, Jan M. Shepherd, of Millersville, PA, Wade K. Shepherd, of Greenville, SC, Hurley S. Shepherd, Jr., of New Orleans, LA, J. Thomas Keever, Jr. of Greensboro, NC, and A. Elizabeth Keever, of Fayetteville, NC.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
