Catherine McNair
LAURINBURG -- Miss McNair, a resident of Scotia Village, died Monday, June 21, 2004. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Scotia Village on Thursday, June 24th at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Mary Love Cemetery in Hamlet, NC at 4 p.m.
Miss McNair was born in Hamlet, NC on January 21, 1912, to one of the founding families of the town. The daughter of Duncan Evander McNair and Mary Terry McNair, she graduated from Hamlet High School and East Carolina Teachers' College in Greenville. The youngest of three daughters, all of whom never married, Miss McNair lived with her two sisters in Hamlet until their deaths and moved to Scotia Village in 1990. She was an elementary school teacher for thirty-nine years and a life long member of First Presbyterian Church of Hamlet, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Survivors are her nieces, Mrs. Peter F. Fellows (Catherine) of Charlotte, Mrs. Rodney Robinson (Mary) of Lincolnton, and Mrs. Charles F. Meacham (Peggy) of Rockingham; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Marvin C. Perry, Sr. of Lincolnton, NC; her great nieces, Mrs. James Crawford (Marianne) of Cheraw, SC, and Miss Mary Catherine Bolch of Lincolnton, NC; and great nephews, Mr. Chip Cooke and wife Kathleen of Wilmington, NC, Dr. Mark Cooke and wife, Dr. Marina Kremar of Mansfield Center, CT, Mr. Adam Bolch of Durham, NC, Mr. Chuck Meacham and wife Joan of Rockingham, NC; and seven great great nieces and nephews. Miss McNair is also survived by a beloved cousins, Mr. Wylie Terry and wife Karen and their daughters, Ashleigh and Amanda, both of Hamlet; and by many other cousins and relatives in North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Frank, Bob and Duncan McNair and by her sisters, Polly and Janie McNair.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 200 Rice Street, Hamlet, NC 28345, Scotia Village, 2200 Elm Lane, Laurinburg, NC 28352, or to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
