Charlotte, North Carolina - Christopher David Collins, 60, formerly of Charlotte, NC, died November 9th, 2021 in Shallotte, NC. He was in the window covering business for most of his life, and the owner of Custom Blinds and Shutters. He was recovering from a serious workplace accident which robbed him of much of his good health and mobility.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Patricia Collins, and his sister Anne, all of Charlotte, NC.
Chris was a free spirit, marching to his own drum beat. He had a kind heart, a spontaneous, yet engaging laugh, and a definite opinion. He could be funny, impulsive, and unpredictable. He was loaded with common sense and could size up an individual quickly.
He had a passion for crossword puzzles, a habit he acquired from his mother. He was an animal lover, leaving behind his pet bearded dragon, Roxanne, and his companion dog, Charlie. He was also an amazing dog trainer whose pet dogs, over the years, were always obedient and loyal.
Chris was ever supportive of and encouraging to his kids. He insisted that both his children receive the education he had not. They went on to obtain their college degrees, with one even earning a Duke Law Degree. He took great comfort in knowing he had raised two thoroughbreds!
He was a good neighbor, with a generous heart, and quick to respond to the needs around him. He loved telling jokes and being around people. And, he cherished family more than anything.
He leaves behind a son, Casey Collins, of Washington, DC; a daughter, Claire Collins, of Raleigh, NC; and two brothers: Chuck Collins (Pat) of Jacksonville, NC and Steve Collins (Trish) of Shallotte, NC; along with several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his loyal, long-time friend and employee, Noel Farrar and trusted friend and confidant, Charlotte Hill, both of Charlotte, NC.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Chris will be held on December 12th, 2021 at 1 pm at McEwen Funeral Home, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28207. A reception will follow the service at 2 pm at the same location.
