Christopher Ullrich Obituary
December 31, 1950 - August 8, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - Dr. Christopher George Anthony Ullrich was born December 31, 1950, in Mercy Hospital in Rochester, New York. He was the first child of George A Ullrich and Marion Saeli Ullrich. He attended St. John the Evangelist grammar school, and he was an altar boy for six years at the church. He also attended the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Troop 37. He earned an Eagle Scout award and Order of the Arrow. He attended St. Andrews Seminary / Kings Preparatory for high school.
Chris then attended St. John Fischer College. The first two years were part of the Beckett Hall program (now Murphy Hall). He graduated in 3.5 years with a B.A. in Physical Chemistry. He worked a variety of jobs to help pay for school. While working in the laboratory at Genesee Hospital, he met Betsy Ann Coleman. They married on May 26, 1973. This marriage was wonderful for both.
Chris attended SUNY Upstate Medical Center (Upstate Medical University) in Syracuse to earn his MD and stayed there doing his residency in Diagnostic Radiology, finishing his studies with a two-year fellowship In Neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins in Boston.
Moving to Charlotte, he loved working at Charlotte Radiology, retiring December 31, 2020 after 38 years. During this time, he became very active in the American College of Radiology, the North Carolina Radiology Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and the Southeastern Neuroradiology Society, where he received many awards and medals for his work and book publications. He was appointed to the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council for nine years and then became Chairman in 2014. Chris received the award for Order of the Long Leaf Pine for public service by the Governor and was on the board of Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte.
Chris especially loved being with his cousins in Indian Land, Rochester and upstate New York, Chicago, and Germany, and living with his sister-in-law, Sally Hopkins. Most of all, Chris, loved traveling, meeting with friends around the world who became family to him, and being in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State in the summer.
Chris died Sunday, August 8, 2021. Services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 2:00pm, with a visitation from 12:30pm to 1:30pm before the service, at Resurrection Church on Commonwealth Avenue in Charlotte.

I hate that I am just now finding out about Dr Ullrich's passing. This news greatly saddens me. I worked with Dr Ullrich almost 32 yrs at Atrium Healths Carolinas Medical Center. He was such a wonderful person, a great radiologist , a dear co-worker and friend. He always knew how to make me smile which always made my day. So pleasant and kind. He will truly be missed. Prayers for his family.

On this picture you met our babygirl the first time. And she loved the great present. The cute book was beautiful. On the picture is also my dad Konni. He died in June 2020. His english was very bad (like mine but now you can laugh and speak together without a barrier.

We are a part of his family in Germany. We don´t met him very often, but I´m very proud that I got to know him.
It was a shock for us, to hear what happend.
He will NEVER be forgotten!!

Dear friends,
We received from Bruce and Debbie Darden the message that Chris passed away a few days ago. The last few years must have been hard for him and for Betsy.
Chris was such a kind, warm and intelligent man, always ready to help other people, a real gentleman.
All over the last 30 years we have been together so many times. We will always remain grateful for his warm friendship. We´ll never forget Chris.
Bruce Northrup passed away some time ago, Jose Casamitjana left us too, now Chris is leaving us. Some other friends are having important health problems. We feel sad and even fall into melancholy. The worst summer ever in Belgium doesn´t make it better.
We hope Betsy will find the courage and support to go through the difficult time ahead and, after some time, to find a way to enjoy more years to come, to continue `enjoying each day´, as Chris said so often, although it will never be the same anymore.
We would love to see Betsy again as soon as possible, 'when the time is right', as Chris used to say so often too.

I soo enjoyed working with Dr. Ullrich for my 28 years at Charlotte Radiology. He was not only intelligent, but kind & easy to chat with! My heart & prayers go out to his family. He will be greatly missed!
