Cornelia Harbison Obituary

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Cornelia Bostick Harbison of 770 Bon Air Circle, Lynchburg, VA died June 26, 2002, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the Rev. Dr. Richard Taylor Harbison.
Born February 11, 1933, in Greenville, MS, she was the daughter of the late Cornelius Adams Bostick and Catherine Scruggs Bostick. After attending Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Mrs. Harbison graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1955. Mrs. Harbison was raised in Greenville, MS, and, during the course of her husband's ministry, lived in Camden, Vicksburg and Canton, MS; Lexington, KY; Baton Rouge, LA; Pensacola, FL; Charlotte, NC; and Lynchburg. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church; extremely active throughout her life in a number of charitable, community and arts organizations; an avid tennis player; and maintained a strong desire to be contacted by aliens.
Mrs. Harbison is survived by her husband; her son R. Taylor Harbison, Jr. and his partner Daniel Garza, Jr., MD, of New York City; her son Mark B. Harbison and his wife Stuart of Jacksonville, FL; her daughter Cornelia H. Hoover and her husband Rod of London, England; her son William R. Harbison and his wife Liz of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren, Lelia, Alex, Julia, Liza, Rebecca, Richard, Will, Wiley and Grace; and her sister Mrs. Arthur Clarke of Olive Branch, MS.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg with the Rev. Eade Anderson and the Rev. Dr. James J.H. Price officiating, followed by a reception in the church's Fellowship Hall, where the family will greet visitors.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the ALS Research Fund, c/o Carolinas Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 32861, Charlotte, NC 28232-2861, or their favorite charity.
