Dana Mitchell Obituary

Dana Mitchell
December 19, 1945 - February 21, 2021
Matthews, North Carolina - Dana Mitchell, 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from a stroke, following an almost five-year battle with multiple myeloma and plasma cell leukemia.
Dana was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Barbara Watson Mitchell and Warren C. Mitchell. Early in her life, the family moved to St. Simons Island in Georgia, a place she loved and called home. She graduated from Wesleyan College in 1968 and moved to Charlotte, NC where she taught physical education in junior high and elementary schools. For many years she sang in the choir of Myers Park Presbyterian Church, where she also played the carillon. Later, Dana sang in the choir of Myers Park Baptist Church.
For 28 years she served as the conference secretary for the Presbyterian Association of Musicians' Conferences on Worship and Music held each summer at Montreat, NC. In 2002 she served as the Conference director.
Dana enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, knitting beautiful sweaters, Oak Island visits, vacationing with her "lunch bunch," delivering friendship trays, and supporting the work of the Hornets' Nest Girl Scout Council.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Peter Voorhees and others at the Levine Cancer Institute for their loving care.
Dana's remains will be interred in the Memorial Garden at Montreat. Due to the covid pandemic, a virtual service of Witness to the Resurrection will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Presbyterian Association of Musicians, 100 Witherspoon Street, Louisville, KY 40202, or to a charity of your choice.
