David Simpson Obituary

David Thomas Simpson, Jr.
David passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.
David was born to David and Mary Kathryn Simpson on May 14, 1959 in Charlotte, NC and was raised in Waxhaw, NC. He attended Union County Public Schools, graduating from Parkwood High School in 1977. He attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1977 to 1984, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Juris Doctor Degree. David married Linda Jane Wright, his wife of 26 years on May 25, 1985 in Pinetops, NC. They were blessed by two wonderful daughters, Sarah Elizabeth in 1988 and Kathleen Grace (Kate) in 1991. David delighted in traveling with family, whether it was cheering for his daughters at a swim meet or vacations wherever the fish were biting, the food was outstanding or he could expand his family's appreciation of history.
David's faith in Christ came alive and grew first at Tirzah Presbyterian Church where he learned the Westminster Shorter Catechism, participated in Sunday School and Boy Scouts, earning his Eagle Scout award. With his family, he joined Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where he served as a leader as a Deacon, Elder, Youth Sunday School Teacher and on various committees and projects. David led a life of commitment to family, God and service to others.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, his daughter, Sarah Simpson Diebold and her husband Christopher, his daughter, Kate Simpson, his parents, David and Mary Kathryn Simpson, his sister, Kathryn Simpson Lassiter, her husband Stephen and their sons James Stephen and William Thomas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, at Harry and Bryant Company at 500 Providence Road, Charlotte. The memorial service for David will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 101 Colville Road, Charlotte with the Rev. Trevor H. G. Smith officiating. I'm Captain Mark Dickson and I had the privilege of guiding David on many fishing trips in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. I am deeply saddened to just now find out about his passing. David and I had some great fishing trips together and he will always be remembered for being the creator as what we nicknamed together the "Simpson Slam" which consist of 5 different species of fish. A Inshore Slam consist of 3 fish, Redfish, Trout and Flounder but David caught two other species, Black Drum and Stripe Bass in addition to those three all in one half day trip and the Simpson Slam was created. He caught this Slam on more than one occasion and no one else has done this on my boat, just him. I always enjoyed seeing David and we spent many an afternoon in some saltwater creek just talking about life and sometimes death. Gone but never forgotten.

Mrs. Simpson,
It has been almost a year, and it still seems like yesterday. Everytime as I drive by 216 McDowell Street,I always think of your husband being there. He was a fine man indeed and with his great expertise, helped out our family out very much. I learned a lot from him on many situations, and even though my age is only 3 years difference I gave him the respect of calling him Mr. Simpson. I hope you and your daughters will always have comfort from the Lord whenever times are difficult. He is in a better place without the suffering that I know for sure he experiened. I will never forget hearing those footsteps of his coming down the stairs into the conference room , talking about golf and fishing before we started business at hand. A professioanl Lawyer for sure.

Linda, I was so sorry to hear of David's passing. He was such a wonderful and caring man. He helped me with an injustice that happened to my husband in 1999. He and Mike Lawter are in heaven together now and at peace and both free from cancer. God's love and peace to you and your family today and always.

Dear Linda,
I am so very sorry to hear of David's death. From looking at the wonderful array of photos posted online, it's apparent that David was a very special man, husband, and father. Thank God for all the wonderful memories you and your daughters have to share and remember together. I am also thankful that his faith was such a big part of David's life, and that his suffering is now ended. Yet, that does little to ease your pain and sadness. My prayer is that the Lord will bring you, Sarah, and Kate peace, that you will feel His presence during this difficult time, and that your hearts will be so filled with love that soon there will be room for nothing else. God bless all of you.
Sincerely,
John Logan

Linda, Sarah & Kate, I met your Father/husband a few years ago at the courthouse in Charlotte and we became friends and mutual cancer fighters. Your father/husband talked about your family vacations, how we both traveled to a lot of the same places, his battle with cancer as well as mine. He never swayed away from his faith or his family. He spoke about the upcoming wedding and how he cherished his girl's. Please know that David understood his battle and how it affected those around him. I will greatly miss our conversations and chats. I keep you in my thought's and prayers.

Ms. Simpson and family: Words cannot begin to express what I felt when I heard of David's passing. My condolences to all of you. I know that David is at peace; however, a great void has been left. I worked closely with David and admired his abilities as an attorney. He truly was an inspiration as he touched so many people with his wit and wisdom. I am proud to say that David was my friend. He will be dearly missed. God Bless!

Linda, Sarah, Kate,

We are so sad to learn of David's passing in the paper today but knew it was just a matter of time. Craig and I are thankful that we got to see him at Sarah's wedding. I remember him loving Jimmy Kimmel and the Man Show (i think that's what it was called) and how he would always say what a pleasure it was having Katie over because she didn't run crying from the table when he was dishing out good-natured ribbing. Your memories of him are endless and they, along with God's comforting arms will sustain you. I am sorry that we won't be able to be at the visitation tonight or the service tomorrow. If there is anything, at any time we can do for any of you, please don't hesitate to call us. You all, as well as David's parents and sister and family will be in our thoughts and prayers. We love you all! Lisa, Craig, Katie and Kelly Ennis

I had the pleasure of spending much time with David on business matters but also talking about life in general. David was a Christian first and foremost. He was as fine an example of the Christian in action, and was consistent in his ways. He obviously loved his family. David was a friend, he set an example for us all to follow, and was an outstanding attorney. I will miss him, and my prayers are with the family.

Linda, Sarah, Kate, Mr.and Mrs. Simpson, and Kathy, I am so sorry you have to experience this terrible loss. David's presence was always like a breath of fresh air. When my son was little, he referred to Uncle David as "that guy who talks like Elvis". Tom and I are thankful for the nice chat we had with David at the wedding. Love to all of you. Linda, Sarah and Kate, I met David at Carolina where he had the room next to mine in Winston Dorm his freshman year. He and I, along with my roommate from that year, John, shared an apartment for the next two years. I remember David as a smart and fun guy. We had three great years together at Carolina, two of them in the same apartment. Since I moved to Houston after college, I haven't had much of a chance to stay in touch, which I'm sure was my loss. David was a great guy and I know he will be missed. I lost my own brother to cancer earlier this month, so I have a keen sense of what you must be feeling. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Linda, Sarah and Kate-- Like David, I memorized the Westminster Shorter Catechism while in college. The first question-- What is the chief end of man? Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. I'd say David has done and IS DOING that. His faith continues to be an inspiration to all of us. Our hearts are with you during this really painful time. Melissa and Jim
