I was at the Renegades game about a month ago when the tribute was given for Erik. I was with my 2 sons at the time aged 12. Words cannot convey what I feel for you and your family. Although Erik was taken way too soon he appeared to be a happy and fulfilled person. I have seen him play. There is nothing better than to see your son or daughter enjoying and succeeding at something they love. Knowing that may help you until your loved one and his family and friends are together again.

As the Wilson Tobs dedicate their bullpen to Erik tonight, we will say a prayer for the family, whom I know still struggles with this tragedy. Though I never really knew Erik, when you spend all ball season with these young men, you feel like you do. He still lives in the hearts of many. God bless.

I had the pleasure of being Erik's teammate for two years in high school and then playing against him in college. He was an exceptional talent and more importantly a great guy. I'll always remember him for his sense of humor and for the great times we had together at West Forsyth.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Walker family.

Erik and I played baseball together for the high school and legion teams in 2000. Erik was an awesome person to be around and a great talent. I'll never forget the great times we shared on the diamond. I'm very sorry for everybody's loss as Erik will be deeply missed. The way Erik lived his life has taught everybody something and has made the world a better place. I'm very glad I got to know Erik.

Please know that my Sunday school class and I have been praying for Larry and the rest of the family during this difficult time. I knew Erik from Clemmons First Baptist Church, and I have a fond memory of riding in a car with Erik, both of our fathers, and several other people when he was young. The car was crowded, and Erik did not have enough leg room, but I remember that he was a good sport! My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Erik.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to get to know Erik while I was working for the Tobs in 2003. Erik was always the hardest working member of the team. He would always be the first at practice and the last to leave. When I first met him he was very shy but as I got to know him he was really down to earth and a nice guy to be around. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. God Bless you Erik.

Erik and I were good friends during my freshman and sophomore years in high school (Erik's junior/senior years). We had a few classes together, and I will always remember how he made me laugh and distracted me from my work. He tended to be good at that (haha). I can only imagine how proud you all must be of his many accomplishments. I wish I could have attended his funeral, but please know that I will keep your family in my prayers.

Larry, I remember how fondly you spoke of Erik during North High's 40th reunion. After losing our Jenni some years ago, I know the grief over losing a child is simply beyond description. Words can't describe it. However, please be assured I'm praying hard for you, classmate and B/B teammate, and know that God will use these times to show a dimension of himself you never thought possible. I shall be in touch with you later....when you'll cherish the presence of family and friends more than ever. In Christ, Henry Prevette ("C. T." - it's mostly "W. T." now - White Top)

My family and I were shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of Erik. I got to know him and his parents in the summer of 2003 when he was a member of the collegiate summer league baseball team where I did radio play-by-play. I saw this guest book and felt compelled to write about the Walker Family and why they are special people to me. The 2003 season with Wilson was my first as a professional after leaving college.
In June of that summer I lost my grandfather. He and I had grown close after my father passed away when years before. So when my grandfather died it was very difficult to deal with.
The day it happened the team had a game in Asheboro, NC. Once we got there I was doing my best to keep a smile on my face. On my way to the press box Peggy, Erik’s mother approached me and ensued to compliment my work on the air. She went as far to say that she couldn’t wait to get home so she could listen to the archived broadcast of the game that had not even been played yet. To a radio broadcaster that is a giant compliment. I recall walking back up the stairs and feeling way better myself and situation. Anyone who knows Erik will tell you he is a great guy. He is the type of person who remained very positive no matter what the situation is. At the end of the season I was asked by the teams GM if there were any players we should have back and Erik was the first name I told him. I could write all day about what a great baseball player and guy he developed into. Erik will sorely be missed and he and his family will remain in our thoughts and prayers.

Larry, Anne, Sam, and Amy-
I did not really know Erik, but I remember working with Sam and Amy at the Clemmons Methodist After School Program and even baby-sitting them. I was told about Erik by my parents and in my graduate classes at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary we prayed for Erik's safety and his return home. I know he did not return home in a way you and everyone would have liked, but he is at home, in peace with his Heavenly Father. I am deeply sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you all and the rest of the family.

Larry and Peggy, I think anyone in Wilson that knew Erik would agree with us that you have a son that we could all be proud of. We can only imagine how proud you must be. The Wilson Tobs were fortunate to have a player like Erik for two seasons. After hearing of this tragic accident,we came to the conclusion there must be a big game in heaven and God needed a great pitcher so he called the bull pen for Erik. We will always remember Erik for the way he could make being around him such fun and at the same time keep focused on his dream of becoming a major league pitcher. Our memories of Erik has earned him a place in our hearts forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and may God bless and comfort you.

Larry,
I can't begin to understand the pain that you and your family are feeling. Nor can I find adequate words to share. However, I want you to know that I am holding you close in thought and prayer.
I always enjoyed the updates that you shared about Erik and his "trips to the mound". I could see the love and pride in your face. And I know that Erik must have loved you for the effort that you made to always be there.
May God comfort you and your family during this time of great sorrow.
Sincerely,

Larry, Peggy, and family,
Erik was a very special person who had a smile on his face all the time. When he played ball you could feel the joy. My son Mark played with Erik at Southwest and on the All-Star team, and Larry coached Mark as well. I was always so impressed with the father/son bond. He will be missed and he was loved.

As the public address announcer for the Wilson Tobs during Erik's 2004 season as a Tob, I can remember clearly so many times when the Tobs were in a jam and I would announce, "Now pitching for the Tobs, #17, from Charlotte, Erik Walker."
As I was saying the above, the thought would be racing through my head that the show was over for the opposing team---game, set, match! Erik was, indeed, an awesome closer that summer for Wilson!
As great as he was on the diamond, and I've been told he was on the fast track to the majors, it is my understanding that Erik was an even better person!
I deeply regret that I didn't get to know this young man on a more personel level, for I have never heard anyone say anything but nice remarks about him.
My sincerest sympathies go out to Erik's family and friends during this difficult time. Please know that Erik will never be forgotten in Wilson, and particularly, in Fleming Stadium.

I only knew Erik for the summer of 2005 when he came and played here in Madison for the Mallards. He was a fun-loving guy that always had a huge smile on his face no matter how bad we lost any game. It was with great, heart-felt saddness that we learned of your loss. How you must be so proud of such a fine young man, and how you will miss him. It's times like these that we cannot look to our own strength or reason to get us through, but to our Holy Father. He knows our suffering, and He is there for us to lean on when we are hurting. Remember He will never allow us to go through more than we can bare. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Brett and family,
I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Erik's passing. I met Erik just once about 15 years ago when you lived off Jonestown Road, I recall playing video games with him. All of the newspaper articles have stated constantly what a fine young man he turned out to be, and was a blessing to everyone who met him, which is a tribute to your family. You and your family are in my prayers.

My son, Nick Ogburn had the opportunity to get to know Eric at West Forsyth, where they both played baseball. Nick was a senior and Eric a sophomore, but Nick was so impressed with his pitching he always said Eric would go pro.
We both always think of you; Larry. You were always there cheering your boy on. You were always so kind to Nick; who had lost his own father. I can still see you pacing; waiting for Eric to come up that hill after a ball game. He was a very special and talented young man.
May the extraordinary bond between father and son that you and Eric share be a blessing from God that death cannot take away.
Our prayers are with Eric's entire family, friends, Christy and her family. God's comfort to you each and every one.

Peggy and Larry - Words will never be able to express the sorrow in all of our hearts. Erik meant the world to Jordan. He looked up to him from the first day of Major All-Stars when Erik took him under his wing, accepting him even though he was "only a 13 year old". All three boys - Jordan, Justin and Jared think the world of not only Erik, but you - Larry, for the time and effort you gave to all the kids on the team. They admired the father-son relationship they saw between you and Erik. Your family touched even beyond my three boys - you touched our extended family in Charlotte - Matt Foard and his family. From SWFLL to UNCC - Erik truly touched many lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Mike and Jill Saye (Lloyd)

Peggy, Larry and families,
We are so sorry for your loss. From the day Erik and Ben started at Wee Care in Clemmons, to the many Little League games, Clemmons Cougars games, overnights, birthday parties shared- we enjoyed knowing him, being around him, and you all, too. He had a special way about him, so humble, so concerned about his team mates and friends. He had wonderful, loving parents who were always there for him. We pray God will give you comfort and peace during this time. We lift you all up in our prayers.

I am Corey Noe's Mom and we were both so very proud of Erik. Although I didn't get to spend time with him, I don't think there was one person I knew that didn't know about Erik. I was always proud to talk of Corey's uncle and know that in some way I was connected to him. My heart goes out to Peggy, Larry, Greg, Brett, Corey and those that were so close to him. Peggy, as Brett said, you were born to be a Mother and a Grandmother. You raised your children and lived your life as if you didn't want to have any regrets. Always remember, that Erik had a great life, he was living his dream and he had wonderful times with you and his Dad. He was truly loved! I am sure he is looking down now and he is the one that is proud of his family. I will continue to pray for each of you through this hard time and hope that each of you will find comfort in God's words. We love Erik, he is Corey's hero and he will be dearly missed.

We have known Erik and his family since he and our son were in the same Sunday school class at age three. The boys grew up together, and we had the pleasure of watching them play sports both together and against each other. We are the aunt and uncle of Brett and Greg Noe, Erik's brothers. We have known Peggy, Erik's mother, and her family all of our lives. He was one lucky young man to have a mother as devoted, caring, and loving as Peggy. She loves her boys beyond anything on this earth, and she is far richer than most of us for being able to bring three wonderful young men into this world. Brett told me yesterday that his brother was one of funniest people on this earth, and he was constantly being the jokester, especially with Greg and Brett. Brett was laughing so hard while talking about Erik and his humor that I could hardly understand him. Those boys loved their brother so very much. Brett also told me how proud he was of his mother for being so strong through all of this. Peggy, we just wish we could be there to comfort you and let your family know how much we love you. We are so very sorry for your loss. It hurts us even more because we know you and how much you truly love your boys. You were born to be a mother - Brett's words. We agree with him. We don't understand why Erik was taken away so soon, but God must have needed someone special in Heaven. Our hearts will be with you tomorrow and always. We love you much!

We are the aunt and uncle of Christy Murray, Erik's girlfriend. We were so fortunate to spend a day with Erik at Katie's (Christy's sister)graduation in June. We were extremely impressed with Erik. He was very personable and caring with all of Christy's family. We felt he was perfect for Christy and so much like her. He had a great sense of humor and treated Christy so good. When we left he was playing baseball in the street with Christy and Katie. We never dreamed that would be the last time we would see him. We were so proud of him when he made the Devil Rays. Erik was back in San Jose, CA two weeks ago when he and Christy took the time to surprise Christy's grandfather at a dinner at her home.

I played ball with Erik after my freshman year of college in Wilson, NC. I have been deeply saddened in learning of this trajedy. In the short time I knew Erik, he was a determined athlete and more importantly, he enjoyed life and was respectful towards everyone he came into contact with. I know he will be missed by those he played with because he left an impression on everyone with his good heart. My thoughts and prayers will be with the Walker family as well as his teammates. He was a great guy and I feel like I was lucky to have known him even if it was only for one summer. He will certainly be missed.

It was truly a pleasure to have the opportunity to spend a couple of summers with Walker. I recall many trips back to Wilson where Walker and I would reminisce about plays of the game, but not once would he put himself on a pedestal. Walker quickly turned my attempts to praise him on his game performances to make someone else shine. Walker would not allow himself to be in the spotlight. Walker saw the good that others did rather than him. He was definitely an exception to the roster. The moments of sitting in the stands of Tobs, 49ers and other games to watch Walker have quickly faded, but the memories will forever remain. Walker was a great kid both on and off the field.
My thoughts and prayers are with Larry and Peggy. And I thank you both for allowing the citizens of Wilson County the opportunity to meet such a fine gentleman.

2 years in Iraq cost me some friends, but my closest one drowned in Kentucky after returning to the states. The preacher said that tragedies are unexplainable and impossible to understand , and to find the thing you loved most from his life and try to incorporate into yours to help you move forward. So from experience I would tell you to do the same, and hopefully this will help you to understand things somewhat as it has done for me. All the prayers I have go to you in this time.

My daughters and I thouroughly enjoyed watching Erik play the 2005 summer in Madison for the Mallards. He was a very determined player that gave 110% everytime he played that summer. He always was very positive (even when the team lost) and he enjoyed life. We will miss him. His parents raised him right!!

Erik was an outstanding baseball player, and, more importantly, he was a great person. We have seen many players come through our organization, but few have been as impressive on and off the field as Erik. He continued to keep in contact with his host family here in Wilson, Mary Jo Farmer and her son Stephen. Erik even sponsored Stephen to attend baseball camp at UNCC this summer.
The entire Wilson Tobs organization mourns Erik’s passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Mr and Mrs Walker and family... my name is Andrew, Erik's host mothers son. I didn't tell many people this before now... Erik was like my older brother. Although i did not see him often, the time we spent together made me feel as though i was his family too. im sure youre aware my older brother passed away when i was younger so this meant the world to me. My condolences to you all. i wish there was something i could do. if there is, feel free to let me know... contact my mom and let her know and i would be more than happy to assist in anything.

I did not know Erik or his family. The death of a child is one of the most devasting pains a mother will ever feel. My family has also experienced this pain and our prayers are with his family during this very painful time.

Erik was a hell of a player and and hell of a guy. I enjoyed interacting with him and seeing him pitch with the Renegades. His kindness, warmth and talent will be missed.

My heart goes to this Erik and his family. I met someone the other day who began speaking of how concerned they were for him. I am sure he was an outstanding person.

My name is Pam Woodall, and my son, Dan played with Eric two years ago. He had nothing but great things to say about Eric. He was a great ballplayer, but he was also a great young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric's family!

I did not know Erik, but know his father. Based on the excellence of his father and his pride in his son I know what a great and promising kid he was.
