Gam Jung Obituary

Gam C. Jung
'Bob'
Mr. Jung, who was born in 1925 in GuangZhou (Canton), China died on Friday, October 20, 2006.
In 1938, he immigrated to the US. It was his hope to escape poverty and to pursue the American dream. He was able to go to school for only 3 years and then, he had to work. Mr. Jung received an honorable discharge from the United States Army 300th Infantry Regiment for his service from June 15, 1944 to June 1, 1946. He was grateful for the training he received and he was extremely proud to serve the US government during those turbulent times.
In 1949, Mr. Jung moved to Charlotte. He opened his first business on East Blvd. the Jung Brothers Dry Cleaners. Today, the Perfection Dry Cleaners on Park Road is still open. He also opened a few restaurants as well the House of Jung, the Mandala and the following restaurants which are still operational: Tokyo Express (Concord), and Shogun (Spartanburg), Tokyo One Express.
Mr. Jung was a well respected and well liked person and he was a Shriner. By far his most notable attribute is that he is remembered as a caring, generous, and giving person. He was always going out of his way to please others and looking out for the best interest of his family and friends. His favorite hobbies were fishing, gardening, painting, and traveling which he enjoyed with his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lee Jung; his daughter, Sue Wong and her husband, Ken; his four sons, Clyde and his wife, Yim, Robert, Parks and his wife, Kim and David and his wife, Boon; his grandchildren, Carey and wife, Misty, Ashley, Kimberly, William, Kevin, Jason Wong and Jennifer Wong, and great grandchildren, Mariah Jung and Marissa Jung.
The Jung family expresses much gratitude for supporting Mr. Jung's businesses and for the friendship of the Charlotte regional community, Presbyterian Hospital Hospice and the Beverly Health Care Center.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 28, 2006 from 7:00-9:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jung will be held 1:30 PM Sunday, October 29, 2006 at McEwen Funeral Service, Pineville Chapel with Reverend Larry Watts, officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
