Garland Henry Grooms

Rev. Garland H. Grooms, Jr. VALDESE - The Reverend Garland Henry Grooms, Jr., 89, of Carolina Street, Valdese, departed this life to his heavenly home on Tuesday May 22, 2012 at Autumn Care Nursing Center following a period of declining health. Rev. Grooms was born on July 16, 1922 in Swain County, N.C. to the late Garland H. Grooms, Sr. and Bertha Parham Grooms. He was a United States Army Veteran, and was a retired ordained Bishop serving the Church of God for many years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Linnie Edge Grooms; and one sister, Anna Mae Louise LeQuire. Survivors include his daughter, Elaine Lanning and husband Coleman of Valdese; two sons, Phillip Grooms and Wanda Creedmore and son Matthew of Gastonia, and Rick Grooms of Raleigh; three granddaughters, Claire Bumgarner and husband Scott of Valdese, Hillary Cole and husband Byran of Mooresville, and Abigail Hefner and husband Matt of Morganton; one grandson, Michael Lanning and fianc‚e Cathy Hughes of Asheboro; four great grandchildren, T.J. Bumgarner, Adrianna Bumgarner, Hannah Cole, and Hazel Cole; and a special canine friend Wooly of the home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday May 25, 2012 at Huntington Hills Church of God, officiating Rev. Y.Z. Isaacs, Rev. Chris Music, and Rev. Kenneth Hensley. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Valdese. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Huntington Hills Church of God.
