George and I met on the Soccer field for the first time as members in the early days of The Charlotte Amateur Soccer Club. We quickly learned that we were both from Rio De Janeiro and had both been living in exactly the same apartment building but at different times. At the time we met I think I was working for NCNB and he was working for the First Union Bank. We would sometimes get together for lunch with other Portuguese speaking people, and on a few occasions George´s family and my family would get together, including one time at a party in 1994 at his lovely lake home (photo attached) with lots of neighborhood children. I had breakfast with George in May of this year. He had a great personality and sense of humor. I wish I could have attended his goodbye ceremony but was out of town and only found out about it today. Vá com Deus, George.

So sad to learn this news. I knew George from our First Union & Wachovia days. He was among the best manager, mentor & friend who impacted me both professionally & personally. George was a "gentle giant" who will be remembered for his character, humility, kindness & joy. He leaves a legacy as devoted husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, mentor & friend. His presence & influence will be missed by all whom he touched. Prayers & sympathies for the family during this journey. May you rest in God´s peace & comfort

Hearing George´s voice always made me smile. Especially on a Monday morning because I wanted to see if/how badly he was limping from his Sunday soccer. But to watch him work in the field...he led with such integrity and truly cared about his team. Connie-you had a jewel

I just learned of George´s passing. I was fortunate enough to work with George at First National Bank of PA in
Charlotte. The Obituary said the following: " George was admired for his integrity, dedication, and genuine care for the people he worked with and served." I definitely was one of the people he worked with and definitely can attest to George´s many fine qualities. Rest In Peace my friend.

Dearest Connie Girl and Family,
Our hearts go out to you. George and you have always been such a loving couple whom we both adore and always will.
We will miss George in his unique way of breaking the ice when we got together after our week long or maybe month´s long absence. It would only take George a few minutes to assess the situation and decide who needed a "pick me up", then he would declare it was "Bob´s Day" or "Sherry´s Day". It always felt real no matter how many times he did it - It really became YOUR day!!! One other thing, during our last visit, Bob thanks Connie for being tied up with grandkids and Sherry for doing her normal off to bed early. That gave George and Bob two special hours of guy talk that Bob will treasure all his life.
Good bye dear Friend....we will see you again. In our minds, it will always be "George´s Day".

Connie, my deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your family. I only knew George through your posts of family time at the lake or visits to children and grandchildren. It was fun to witness from afar over the years. You, of course, I have known since our days in Olde Providence, Windyrush and at school at South Meck. Take care, my dear friend. I send my love to you and the family at this time of loss. Bruce (Rooster).
