Guy Hartman Obituary

Guy Brock Hartman finished the race and passed on to be with the Lord on May 1, 2018. Guy was born February 5, 1932 in Winston Salem, NC. He moved to Mocksville, NC where he met the love of this life, Margaret Cozart Hartman, and they have been married for 62 years. Guy befriended and served those that he came in contact with every day of his life. He enjoyed activities such as football and excelled in tennis. He was also well known for his love of a competitive game of cards.

Guy attended Clemson College where he studied Electrical Engineering. Guy then entered the Army and served between 1954 and 1956 as a Communications Specialist. He attended a specialized school in Texas to learn a new encrypted language which he utilized in maintaining secretive communications for nuclear testing at the Enewetak Atoll- Marshall Island testing site. Guy was proud of his military service.

Guy went on to work for IBM where he had a 34-year career that would have continued, if not for being encouraged to take an early retirement. Guy was known as the problem solver around work and even received an award for being the "Proglem Solver". Anyone that knows Guy, knew of his hard work and dedication. He continued to work for Weaver Cryptographic Equipment repair for an extended period after his retirement.

Guy enjoyed a fulfilling life. Margaret and Guy settled in Charlotte, NC where they raised four children and are blessed with seven grandchildren. Margaret and Guy were active members at Sharon Presbyterian Church for many years before joining First Baptist Church downtown in which they are still active members. Guy served his church and community faithfully. He was also a Mason.

Guy is preceded in death by daughter Martha Venita Hartman; brother John Hartman; parents George and Minnie Hartman.

Guy is survived by his wife, Margaret Cozart Hartman; three children, Guy Hartman Jr., Ann Hartman Masi and her husband, Rich, Margaret Guynette Hartman and her husband, Eric; grandchildren, Brock Hartman, Brody Hartman, Dylan Masi, Brooke Masi, Courtney Hartman, Reid Hartman, and Ginger Hartman; and a sister, Josephine Sande; .

Funeral service will be 12:30 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte. Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday from Noon until the service time.
