Henry Meredith Obituary

Henry Max Meredith, Jr.
MONROE -- Mr. Meredith, 86, of Monroe, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at the Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail. Max, as he was known as, was born on April 30, 1922, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of the late Henry Max Meredith and Okey Mae Gillespie. After the Invasion of Pearl Harbor during World War II, he answered his country's call to service and enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he re-enlisted and continued to serve in the Army and the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sargeant of the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service. He went on to graduate from the University of Missouri and obtained his Master's Degree. He finished his career as a high school business education teacher. Max was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, and he and his wife took part in many Eastern Star activities. His wife, Mary Jane, preceded him in death on January 22, 2008.
Max is survived by two children: Henry Max Meredith III (Donna) of Bluefield, VA and Zelma D. Lawrence of Bluefield, VA; two step-children, Patricia (Joseph) Harkey of Monroe, NC, and Samuel (Faye) Pruett of Matthews, NC. Max is also survived by three siblings: Irene Gerlach of Baltimore, MD; Norma Heinlein of Statesville, NC, Clinton 'Buck' (Lucy) Meredith of Columbus, OH, Betty Meredith of Columbus, OH, and Sharon Tibbs of Bluefield, WV. Max is further survived by 5 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, his parents, and his wife.
Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel, with burial to follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12-1PM prior to the service.
