I worked in the business office at the NallecClinic from 1975-1989. Dr. Hinshaw was also my husband's physician. He was certainly well thought of by both employees and patients alike. Sincere condolences to the family.

My endocrinology career in Charlotte began with Howard picking me up at the airport. It was 1988. He and Virginia were very gracious in inviting our family into their home, introducing us to colleagues and helping us get acclimated to our new setting. For many years, Howard was a valued mentor, colleague, and friend. I will remember him with gratitude and fondness. Nancy and I send our regards to Virginia and the rest of the family.

Howard was a dear friend and an excellent and caring physician for my family. He loved woodworking and excelled at it. He was a wonderful husband and father and was generous to a fault. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Howard was the kind of friend one needs in tough times. He was always steady and unruffled, no matter what "disaster" might be striking. Never panicked. In fact, he'd just say very little but he'd flash his grin that let you know he truly believed things were going to turn out OK in the end, and that's all the reassurance you needed. He never sought the spotlight, but he'd always volunteer to do whatever task needed doing....even the thankless ones. He was the ultimate friend that you knew you could count on without exception.
As an endocrinologist, he was unexcelled. He was the consultant that you always referred your difficult patients to, knowing that they would love him and do well under his care. His patients and his colleagues are going to miss him. He's irreplaceable.
