Isaac Riggs Obituary

STATESVILLE -- Mr. Isaac Frederick "Fred" Riggs, 68, of 153 Larue Circle, died Friday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Surry County on January 31, 1935, he was a son of the late Charlie W. Riggs and Mary Lula Mitchell Riggs. He was the founder of Interstate Bolt and Supply Company Inc. of Statesville. He served in the US Army and was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Statesville Lodge #27 A.F & A.M. and was Past President of the Statesville Shrine Club, Past President of the West Iredell Lions Club and Past President of the South Eastern Fastener Association. He was selected as the Small Businessman of the Year in 1996 by the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce. He was a racing fan and avid hunter and sportsman who also loved the water.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Bennie Thompson, formerly of Jonesville, NC.
On September 14, 1957, he married the former Anna Childress, who survives. Also surviving, are two daughters, Mrs. Annette Freeland and her husband Scott of Statesville, and Mrs. Tammy Littlejohn and her husband Spencer of Huntersville; three grandchildren, Benjamin and Joshua Stikeleather and Alexander Childress; and two step-grandchildren, Joshua and Jason Freeland. Also surviving are four brothers, Ray C. Riggs, Paul E. Riggs and Ruben W. Riggs, all of Mt. Airy, and Monroe Riggs of Cleveland, NC.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Christian Life Center with Rev. Olin Isenhour and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Creason, Wayne Greene, Bob Lovette, Graham Mullis, Joel Hall and Allen Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Masons and members of the Men's Bible Class of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, as well as employees of Interstate Bolt and Supply Company in attendance. The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will be conducted at the graveside in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 607 Bethlehem Road, Statesville, NC 28677, The Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605, Hospice of Iredell County, Inc., 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625, or to any other charity of the donor's choice.
