Ismael Rojas Obituary

Ismael Rojas
DURHAM -- Mr. Rojas died Tuesday in Durham Regional Hospital. A native of Cuba, he was born March 9, 1920, and operated his own business for many years prior to coming to the U.S. in the early 1950s. Mr. Rojas moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he spent his career as superintendent in several apartment buildings over the years. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Durham in 1985.
Mr. Rojas was a carpenter by avocation, and was remarkably gifted at working with his hands. With unshakeable patience, he could fix or build almost anything. To the surprise of his family, he undertook, with great delight, the building of a garage with his young granddaughter. He also loved music and beautifully played the guitar throughout his life. Ismael Rojas was a gentle and gracious man, devoted to his family. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Eloisa Rojas; a son, Manuel Rojas and his wife, Sara of Durham, formerly of Charlotte; granddaughter, Amy M. Rojas of Durham; and a brother, Norberto Rojas of Cuba.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
