James Cox Obituary


James E. Cox
Mr. Cox, 83, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Oakdale Heights Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Harry and Bryant Company "Chapel in the Oaks", 500 Providence Road, Charlotte, with the Reverend Mark Diehl officiating. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery will be private. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cox was born August 11, 1921, son of the late Sanford D. and Belle Parker Cox. He owned and operated James E. Cox Construction Co. from 1963 until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Cox was an alumnus of Clemson University and a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was a Past President of the Couples Class at Covenant Presbyterian Church, and served as a Treasurer for the Associated General Contractors (South-East Region). He was a member of the West Charlotte Rotary Club, a past officeholder and member of the Quiet Birdmen and was a member of the ROF's at Carmel Country Club.
Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mrs. Lois N. Cox of Charlotte; daughters, Marilyn V. Cherrit of New Castle IN and Suzanne Cox Isola of Charlotte; son, James E. Cox Jr. of Bayboro NC; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Cox particularly enjoyed spending time with the children in his family. His consideration, patience, humor, wisdom and gentle strength are a living and enduring part of those lucky enough to have lived and grown up close to him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte Rescue Mission, 907 West First St., Charlotte, NC 28202 or Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Oakdale Heights Assisted Living for their care and help.
