James Lawing Obituary
'Mike'
Mr. Lawing, of Charlotte, died peacefully November 12, 2010, at Carolinas Medical Center. He was 53 years old. He was the youngest son of the late Harry Campbell Lawing Jr., and Mary Frances Blackwelder Lawing.
Mike was a gregarious soul who never met a stranger. He liked to talk about everything from his love for plants and animals to politics. He also loved to cook, creating his own recipes in many cases. He was owner of Lawing's Lawn Care and Landscaping for 30 years, where he took great pride in his work.
He is survived by a son, Michael Lawing; brothers, Harry III and wife Deborah, William Graham and wife Traci; nieces, Leisa Abernethy and Sarah Lawing; nephews, Graham, Eric, Kyle, Curtis, and JC Lawing; dear friends Malcolm Smith, Steve Jackson and Theresa Temple, his beloved dogs Winston and Imo, and cat PD. He was predeceased by a nephew, Harry Campbell Lawing, IV.
A service of remembrance will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010, in the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins & Whittington Funeral Service, with the family receiving friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Humane Society of Charlotte, 2700 Toomey Ave., Charlotte, NC 28203, Second Harvest Food Bank, 500-B Spratt St., Charlotte, NC 28206, The Charity of the Donor's Choice, or simply plant a tree.

Mike was a sweet, kind-hearted man who would do anything to help a friend in need. He was a better friend to me than I was to him and I pray that he forgives me for that. I am grateful that he is now at peace and feels no more pain because he is with his beloved Savior. We will miss you Mike.

I first met Mike at Eastway Junior High School as a 7th grader. We became close friends for many years and shared many fun times together. I will pray that God will comfort his loved ones.

Mike was a good friend who loved all animals, and would help when things got bad. He would always ask to go for walks in the woods with his dogs and mine, who he loved dearly.He loved to talk and never met a stranger.

I'm Steve Carter, and I knew Mike since I was in Middle School, at Eastway Junior High. He was a happy soul, outgoing, and a friend. My very sincere condolenses to his next of kin. I will pray for his soul, as well as for God's comfort of his family.
