Jefferson Crump Obituary

Jefferson (Jeff) Crump left this earth to meet his Lord and Maker on July 3, 2017. He was born on February 25, 1946 in Mint Hill, NC, the son of the late Clifford and Ollie Crump.

After graduating from East Mecklenburg High School in 1964, Jeff joined the US Army and attained the Rank of E6. He was with the US Army for 6 1/2 years. Upon leaving the US Army, Jeff secured a position as a Deputy Sheriff with Montgomery County in Maryland. He was with the Montgomery County Sheriffs Office for 25 years. After retiring from the Sheriffs Office, he and his wife relocated to Charlotte, NC.

Jeff loved his family, his friends and his animals, and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed trips to the beach and playing golf at Pine Lake Country Club. Jeff attended Wilson Grove Baptist Church in Mint Hill.

In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Crump Lott in 2013; sister, Barbara Presson; brothers, Haywood and Bill Crump; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Bradley and Grady Helms.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Evi Gnatowski; sisters, Bernice Helms, Louise Bradley, Bessie Jane Rushing (J.D.), Ruth Belk, Pauline Edwards, Joyce Harris (Steve), and Ann Harris (Norfleet); brother, John Crump (Phyllis); as well as his brother-in-law, Morris Presson, and sisters-in law, Betty Crump and Yvonne Crump.

Evi, I'm so sorry to hear of your family's loss. The few times that I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff he was such a caring & loving man that adored you. I know life without him on earth will be challenging but remember he will always be with you, you have lots of family & friends that are here for you and ultimately he is in a better place and reunited with Sheila & his parents. May you find strength and know that you're in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Crump Family. You do not know me. However, Jeff and I were Deputy Sheriffs together.
We lost touch and I am sorry for that. Jeff was a wonderful person and great Deputy Sheriff. For me, he was very special.
He was always there for me with his great smile. However, I sometimes needed support and he did that for over 3 years. People respected him alot. When Jeff stood up for me and protected me, everyone paid attention. I was one of the first female Deputy Sheriffs in Montgomery County, Maryland's history. 1978, I was also the 1st Black female in that history. Jeff loved and protected me. For that I will remember him always.
