TEGA CAY -- Mr. Ballard, of Tega Cay, South Carolina, went to rest with the Lord on October 11, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Ballard was born on Christmas Day, 1946, the youngest son of James and Dorothy Ballard. His father preceded him in death. He leaves behind his beloved mother, Dorothy Ballard Pawlacyk, and his wife of many years, Carol Hoggatt Ballard.
Mr. Ballard served honorably in the US Marine Corps and was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from Western Michigan University and attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School. In 1983 he and a partner founded Cambridge Marketing, Inc., a company that markets custom products and equipment to hospitals and other businesses throughout the United States. The Ballards patented two medical related devices while operating Cambridge Marketing which is currently located in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mr. Ballard was retired from the business at the time of his death. His retirement days were spent nurturing his love of gardening, art, and his pet dogs who gave him so much comfort.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Ballard is survived by his brother James of Houston, Texas, and sister Christine of Portage, Michigan, along with three beloved nieces and their families.
Friends will gather in his memory at the home in Tega Cay, South Carolina. Burial will take place in Stevensville, Michigan. It is requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to a local chapter of the Humane Society.
