Jo Ann McGee Freeman

1940 - 2018

Jo Ann McGee Freeman, 78, of Gastonia and formerly of Charlotte, passed into eternity on September 17, 2018. Born on July 17, 1940 to the late James Putnam McGee and Lois Malcolm McGee, she was the oldest of three girls. Jo Ann was a proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1958 and attended their monthly luncheons until circumstances prevented her from doing so. Jo Ann worked for American Cyanamid (Cy-Tec Industries) for 36 years. She was an active member at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, serving as both an elder and a deacon and various other positions within the church. Serving the Lord by serving others was her passion. Jo Ann loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves; she loved flowers; and she loved traveling to the beach.

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Forrest, Jr. of 54 years; sisters Linda Jean Dean and Betty Sue Milam.

Jo Ann is survived by her son, F. Cooper Freeman, III (Linda); daughter Crystal Johnson (Chris); grandsons: F. Cooper Freeman, IV, Price Freeman, and Barrett (Brooke) Freeman, and Cameron Johnson; granddaughter, Caroline Johnson; great-grandsons, Peyton and Theron Freeman; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Dr. Jeff Pinkston and F. Cooper Freeman, III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, followed by a visitation and reception in the Family Life Center.
