Joan and Emil were wonderful, loving people. Joan and I shared a love for cats and Joan so loved seeing my cat photos that I shared with her every Christmas.

She was a great Mama Bear as I was Baby Bear in our third grade production of The Three Bears. My yearly birthday card from Joan began with Dear Baby Bear. My wife Anne and I were dear friends with Joan for at least 80 years as we all joined the First Presbyterian Church in Reidsville the same day in 1941. It was wonderful to share life with Joan and her family.

Debbie, Richard, Barbara and Family,
very special thoughts of aunt Joan, insightful ideas with varied topics of discussion, sometimes with her wonderful humor added in , the anecdotes of life, and many family stories. For me, many cherished memories , especially of the family summer and beach gatherings in childhood and early adult life. The really good advice about life she could offer, and her recommendations for good literature to read as well as insightful nonfiction material. One to never allow her curiosity for new knowledge to go unexplored, always encouraging us and others to further educate ourselves in the same way. Mom's many cherished thoughts and memories, past and present, of her older sister Joan. Mom looked up to her as a guiding light in her life. I also have the memory of my late sister Tina and I being afraid of any water higher than our shoulders as small kids, and aunt Joan teaching us how to overcome that fear , teaching us one June how to swim. Like riding a bike, once you learn, you never forget how to swim either. Many more nice memories always seem to come to mind, and will always be there. So we will always have your mother, my aunt Joan, with us as long as we live. We can all take comfort in that along with how she led a long, truly full and fulfilling life. Rest in peace aunt Joan! ----nephew Brian
