We were the best of buddies. We played football together and got in fights together, drank too much and chased beautiful women till we got caught.
But best of all we chased our dreams and played music together in Joe King“s Combo. Joe was a Showman and could play the hell out of his fancy red Gibson. God did we have fun. Thank you Joe. You introduced me to my life.

Love You Buddy.

JOE: HAVE WONDERED ABOUT YOU OVER THE YEARS...THE SAME PICTURE AS ABOVE REMAINS ON THE DESK. WHEN PEOPLE ASK ME WHO YOU ARE, I ALWAYS SAY, "HE'S THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY." THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU WAS WHEN ZACHARY WAS 3. MUST HAVE BEEN 10 YEARS AGO. HAVE MISSED AND LOVED YOU ALWAYS.

I had the pleasure of meeting and taking care of Mr. Estes while he was hospitalized. I am heartbroken to hear of his passing. My prayers go out to Sharon, his children and the rest of his family. May God give you comfort and strength during this difficult time.

I met Joe many years ago when he called me to sing at a gig. I was going through a very difficult time with a bad divorce and was broke. Out of the blue, Joe mailed me a check for $100! He had never even met me in person at the time! I called him to thank him and to say I would pay him back; he told me to "pay it forward" instead (which I did). I know there's a very special place in Heaven for such a kind-hearted soul! May God bless Joe and his loved ones and welcome him into The Kingdom of Love and Light. Debby Dobbins

Words fall short. I'm proud to be his cousin. Joe and I played many great gigs together. I always will treasure that. He was a wonderful person. After every gig he would say, "Jimmy, we knocked 'em out". Our whole family will miss him deeply.

Joe was my older cousin, champion and friend... when I was a young boy, and up through my freshman year, in high school.. I thought Joe was about the coolest person I knew... I was always proud to be his cousin. I think that's about as high... a compliment as you can pay another being, being proud, to share their bloodline... I was always changing schools as a kid, I can remember my freshman year at Wilkes Central High School, a new face, in a new school, recipe for confrontation with a bully... it started... a senior, on the football team, up against a 5'6" ,skinny immature, freshman... outside the school entrance, with a large audience... hard to orchestrate anything, much worse..being humiliated in front of an audience of your peers, all strangers... then in my darkest hour, my cousin Joe was there, he delivered me from humiliation and worse...We went our separate paths through life, but would meet sometimes; at family reunions, funerals or hospitals, whenever we saw each other, there wasn't that distance and reserve that constrains adults. It was always a genuine heartfelt intimacy, love and warmth, that only loved cousins feel.

Joe was very strong in his hands. It cost me $50.00 to learn this lesson as he bet me he could rip a deck of playing cards into with his bare hands. He liked me for some reason and did not make me pay him the money. Instead he showed me the art of this feat. By the way it was not as easy for me to do as Joe made it out to be. God Bless the family as Joe will be missed

I only met Joe once or twice so I can say he loved his grandchildren. I knew a lot of folks that knew him well and again, I can say he had dedicated friends that loved him, even if they had not seen him in a while. That stands for a lot. Let God hold you Pamela, Caleb, Luke & Maggie and the rest of the Estes family.

perhaps when the tears stop I'll be able to better express myself. I have lost a hero of mine and one of my very best friends and a brother. Never was there a truer friend and confident that blessed me with their love. I dearly loved Joe and I'll miss him for the rest of my life on this earth. There is one bright spot remaining: I am positive I'll reunite with him one day in Heaven. Please Jesus, put your loving arms around Joe and welcome him to your home.
