Joe Poteat Obituary

Joe Spencer Poteat
LINCOLNTON -- Mr. Poteat, age 80, of the Brian Center, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2004.
His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Floral Gardens in High Shoals. Following the burial, the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in the fellowship hall of David Memorial Baptist Church.
Mr. Poteat was born in September 5, 1923 in Spartanburg, SC to the late Boyce and Lily Poteat. Joe retired from J.P. Stevens in 1989 and was a US Army Veteran where he served in WWII in the Asian Pacific Theater.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Poteat of High Shoals, NC; five children, David Poteat and wife Teresa of High Shoals, NC, Donald Poteat and wife, Pauline of Vale, NC, Kathy Messick and husband, Lewis Messick of Kings Mountain, Bobby Poteat and wife, Susan Poteat of Lincolnton, NC, Cindy Hendricks and husband David of Lincolnton; one brother, C.J. Poteat of Dallas, NC; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to David Memorial Baptist Church, 2533 Country Club Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
Warlick Funeral Home is serving the family.
