John Ashwell Obituary

John Charles Ashwell

February 24, 1953 - April 10, 2025

Blackstock, South Carolina - John Charles Ashwell, 72, a beloved husband, son and brother passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Born February 24, 1953, in Putnam, CT, he was the son of Charles Ashwell (predeceased) and Ruth Paine.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 49 years, Kathy Lee Ashwell, his brothers, Robert Ashwell (Cynthia), James Ashwell, Roy Rankin (Deborah), sister Elizabeth Ashwell, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Relocating from Connecticut to Charlotte, NC in 1994, he started J&K Transport, LLC until 2000. He later retired in 2008 from Growing Legacy Landscape in Pineville, NC to pursue ranch living in Blackstock, SC on 20+ acres.

John always took pride in a clean vehicle, a mowed lawn and valued hard work. A lifetime mechanic, fabricator, and equipment operator, he thrived being outdoors. His hobbies included following NASCAR, hunting, and rescuing Dobermans. His quick wit and helping hand to many will be missed by all who knew him.

A casual visitation and gathering of friends will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Barron Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Levine Cancer Institute and Atrium Health.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to victoryjunction.org or dogwooddobermanrescue.org
