John Conway Obituary

John Joseph Conway
Mr. Conway, 85, of Charlotte, NC, died on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at his home. He was born on September 3, 1919 in Central Falls, RI, son of the late Thomas A. and Mary Cummings Conway.
In 1954, Mr. Conway was transferred to Charlotte as Branch Sales Manager for the Carolinas representing Remington Electric Products. He organized Man-Rep Sales as a Manufacturers Representatives group in 1968. In 1970, Mr. Conway bought Carolina Shaver Sales and Service in Charlotte, and Raleigh Shaver Sales and Service in Raleigh, NC. He organized D & D Distributors in Charlotte in 1971. All four operations operated under the John Conway Company Corp. from which he retired in 1984. Mr. Conway served with the US Air Force during World War II in England, the 12th Air Force in Africa and Italy, and returned to the US after 32 months overseas. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks and a member of American Legion Post 262.
Mr. Conway is survived by his daughters, Ellen Conway of Alexandria, VA, and Kathleen Conway Siskron, of Charlotte, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ashe Conway in 1991, sisters, Catherine Patricia Conway in 1990 and Eleanor Conway Chase in 1997.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte with the Reverend Robert Conway, Celebrant. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Harry and Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
Harry and Bryant Company is serving the family of Mr. Conway.
