John Nash Obituary

John T. Nash
CAPE MAY, NJ -- Mr. Nash, 88, died Sunday evening, October 23, 2005, in the North Cape Nursing Center, North Cape May, NJ. Mr. Nash was born in Cape May, and was a lifelong resident.
He graduated from Hampton Institute, where he studied Upholstery and Cabinet Making. At a later time, Mr. Nash attended Glassboro State Teacher's College, where he received his degree in Education. For many years, he owned and operated his own awning and upholstery business in Cape May. He also owned the Planter Motel in Cape May (currently the Cape Winds Motel). Mr. Nash served in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II in Europe. He was a former member of the Cape May City Board of Education at the Cape May Elementary School. Mr. Nash was a resident historian of African American History for the Cape May area. He wrote and edited several pamphlets detailing the rich cultural history of African Americans in Cape May as far back as the turn of the 19th century.
Mr. Nash was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Janet 'Dolly' Davidson Nash, in 2004. He is survived by a sister, Ann Morris, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services and a tribute to Mr. Nash will be celebrated Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, cor. Hughes and Decatur Sts., Cape May. Inurnment will follow in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House.
Donations in his memory are suggested to Center for the Community Arts, Franklin Street School Fund, 712 Lafayette Street, Cape May, NJ 08204, ATTN: Steven Becker.
