Josephine Hambrick Obituary

HICKORY -- Josephine Lyerly Hambrick, 98, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at her home after a brief illness.
Born on July 4, 1904 in Hickory, she was the daughter of the late Eubert and Josephine Bonniwell Lyerly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert Theodore Hambrick, Sr.
She was a graduate of Hollins College, Virginia.
A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory, she was an Honorary Life Member and a president of the Presbyterian Women. She was a charter member of the Service League of Hickory, a founding member of the Hickory Community Concerts Association, an honorary trustee of the Hickory Museum of Art, a member of the North Carolina Medical Society Alliance, a past president of the Catawba County Medical Society Alliance, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Survivors include a daughter, Josephine B. Hambrick of New York, NY; a son, Robert T. Hambrick, Jr. and his wife Suzanne; a grandson, Robert T. Hambrick, III, and his wife Janet; a granddaughter, Margaret H. Glaze and her husband Gene; two great-grandsons, Jackson S. Hambrick and Gaither L. Hambrick; and two great-granddaughters, Mary Caroline Glaze and Catherine W. Glaze; all of Hickory.
A memorial service will be conducted by The Reverend Doctor Wallace Johnson and The Reverend Deborah McEachran on Saturday, March 1, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory. The family will receive in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service. There will be a private burial service in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will be at her home from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 28.
Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund of First Presbyterian Church, 237 Second Street NW, Hickory, NC 28601; the Scholarship Fund of the Service League of Hickory, 506 Third Avenue NW, Hickory, NC 28601; Hickory Museum of Art, PO Box 2572, Hickory, NC 28603; or the charity of one's choice.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is in charge of arrangements.
