Elizabeth Kurie Uptegrove
'Betty'
Betty was born on December 17, 1925 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Charles W. and Bethny Perry Kurie. She died after a short illness in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 7, 2008.
She moved to New York City after she graduated from Colorado College in 1948 with a BA in Psychology. Subsequently she met and married Deane Hartwell Uptegrove of Short Hills, New Jersey. They lived for many years in Far Hills, New Jersey. In 1992, she moved to the Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames, Betty delighted in her researching her family's history. She also maintained her membership in the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Deane; her brothers, Charles W. Kurie, and John F. Kurie of Charlotte, the late owner of The Mecklenburg Times.
She is survived by her daughters, Bethny Uptegrove of Belmont, Massachusetts, and Linda Wheadon of Bothell, Washington; and two grandchildren, Chris and Michelle Wheadon.
Her loving kindness and loyalty will be missed by those who are close to her. A memorial service will be held 3PM, March 28, 2008 at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Rd., Charlotte, North Carolina, following a memorial service at 10:00AM at Southminster Retirement Community, 8919 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
She will also be memorialized at St. John on the Mountain Episcopal Church of Bernardsville, New Jersey.

Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center is entrusted with the arrangements.

Aunt Betty was a very sweet, gracious, and enthusiastic lady who welcomed me into the Kurie family as if I had always been. I will always be grateful to her for that. We will miss her!

Betty was a dear soul whose love for her family was first in her heart. I enjoyed visits with her.
