Judy Oquist Obituary

Judy Oquist
January 23, 1936 - August 22, 2022
Lincolnwood, Illinois - Judy Oquist blazed her own trail, and her family had the good fortune to be included in her adventurous life. She was passionate about jazz, skiing, art, dance, travel, New Orleans, the Cubs, and her hometown, Chicago.
From Cab Calloway to Dave Brubeck, you cannot name a noted jazz musician Judy has not seen in person. In the 1950s she skied Sun Valley, and with the money she earned in her job as a telephone operator, she bought an ocean liner ticket for a solo trip to Europe, where where she toured Spain, and skied the Zugspitze in the German Alps. She was a Renaissance woman.
Judy introduced her children to National Parks, ballet, live theater, movies, and books. She mastered calligraphy, hosted all the family parties, and made the world's most unique greeting cards.
Judy was born to Catherine Corley and Melvin Anderson in 1936. Her 49 year marriage to Earl Oquist began on September 9, 1961 and ended upon his death on December 8, 2010. She leaves behind her four children, three in-laws, one ex-in-law, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and many friends, all of whom brought her joy.

I met Judy through our daughters; her Lynn and our Sara who were dear friends. Judy was a delight! Great sense of humor and easy to be with. And always willing to take turns having the kids. I considered her a good friend and she will be missed.

Sad to read of Judy's passing. I first met her at the Dowd Y water fitness classes. Then we'd see her at the Bechtler Jazz concerts. Always first in line to get the best seat. Such a special person.

Even though we haven kept in touch since my mother passed, I have always kept her and continue to keep her in my heart. She was a great god-mother and I will miss her terribly. Much love to the family.

My Deepest condolences to the Oquist Family, I have so many memories of you most of them in the kitchen at the house on Estes, the van you drove, and I´m pretty sure Tracy drove it once or twice, And I´ll always remember breaking into your house, when you and the family were on vacation most likely skiing. I know your at peace now with Earl

My deepest condolences to the Oquist family, I have so many memories of you mostly in the kitchen.. driving that crazy van, that you drove, and I´m pretty sure Tracy drove too.. your light will always shine in all the hearts you´ve touched. It´s comforting knowing that you´re with Earl and both at peace.
