Kim Gump Obituary

Kim Joann (Ferguson) Gump passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, at her home in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 70 years old. Kim was born on December 8, 1954, in Sharon, PA, to Lc Joann Ferguson and Ralph Thomas Ferguson Jr.

A 1972 graduate of Sharon High School, Kim cherished her time as the Sharon Tiger Mascot-a role that perfectly captured her lifelong gift for lifting the spirits of others. She will always be remembered for her love of pink, gold, and anything that sparkled. Her vibrant personality could light up any room, and she had an exceptional way of making everyone around her feel valued and loved.

Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Lc and Ralph, and her sister-in-law, Pamela Ferguson.

She is survived by her devoted husband, John Gump, whom she married on July 1, 1988. They celebrated 37 wonderful years of marriage. Kim is also survived by her children, Samantha Joann (McKendry) Poraczky and her husband, Jason, and William Hugh McKendry, III and his wife, Kimberly; two brothers, Ralph Thomas Ferguson III and Frank Joseph Ferguson; and a sister-in-law, Carita Ferguson. She also leaves behind her nephews, Ralph Thomas Ferguson IV (Angie) and Frank Joseph Ferguson Jr. (Jess); her niece, Kami Rydarowicz (Justin); and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends-many of whom she considered family.

Being "GG" was the joy of Kim's life. She is survived by seven beloved grandchildren: Rylan Poraczky, Kamryn Poraczky, Marieke McKendry, William "Hugh" McKendry, IV, Brighton McKendry, Livinia Chevalier, and Jarrett Galloway. Kim was not only a GG to her own grandchildren, but to everyone who knew and loved her. She proudly introduced herself by that title, which suited her perfectly, as she radiated love, kindness, and warmth to all.

Kim was a lifelong member of Covenant Presbyterian Church until moving to Charlotte in 2005. She had a deep love for music and fellowship. She sang alto in the church choir from high school onward and participated in every annual Christmas Cantata. She served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. Kim also co-directed the Youth Club at Covenant for 12 years, pouring her heart into enriching the lives of children and ensuring the success of the program.

She attended Shenango Valley School of Business, where she earned an associate degree in secretarial business. After graduating, she worked as an office administrator at Principal Financial Group for five years.

Kim and John owned and operated PLS Builders in Hermitage for 13 years, during which they built 46 homes and two churches in the Sharon/Hermitage community. As the first point of contact for customers, Kim's warm smile and welcoming nature made her perfectly suited for the role.

She also treasured her years working at Farrell Golden Dawn and Kraynak's, where she formed lifelong friendships.

After moving to Charlotte, Kim worked in various office positions at Sonic Automotive and Bonami North America. Fondly known as "Momma Kim," she was cherished not only for her professionalism but for her exceptional ability to bring people together. Whether planning celebrations or brightening the workplace, Kim brought joy wherever she went.
