Larry Watson Obituary

Larry Del Watson

June 13, 1956 - November 3, 2025

Greenville, South Carolina - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Del Watson, who departed this life on November 3, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on June 13, 1956, in Greenwood, South Carolina, Larry was a son of the late Billy Luther Watson and Sarah Elizabeth Coleman Watson. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Greenwood High School (1974), Larry went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University in 1978. His education and keen intellect served him well throughout his career, where he worked in sales for Ingersoll Rand in Charlotte, North Carolina, before establishing his own business, Air Centers of South Carolina, in Greenville.

Larry's passions were as varied as they were deep. Known for his detailed, organized approach to life, Larry was always willing to lend a helping hand. His inquisitive nature and love for learning made him an avid reader and an accomplished cook, often preparing meals for those he loved. His adventurous spirit took him to several places around the globe, including the Virgin Islands, France, and his personal favorite, Italy. A longtime supporter of Clemson University, he cherished attending football games and was an enthusiastic tailgater, sharing joy and camaraderie with friends and family.

He was married to Amy Welborn Watson in December 1984, and together they created a loving home for their daughter, Sarah. Larry remained closely connected with his siblings, maintaining strong relationships and creating lasting memories with his brother Danny, sisters Gayle Neill and Janet Dorsey, and their families.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, touching the lives of many colleagues, friends, and family members. Surviving relatives include his wife, Amy, his beloved daughter Sarah Watson; siblings, Danny Watson and his wife Nitsa Watson, Gayle Neill, Janet Dorsey; sister-in-law, Gayle McHaffie; and nieces and nephews, Yianna Kappas, Sam Neill, Jaime Neill, Coleman Dorsey, Megan Durlach, Adam Hansil, Brant Hansil, Justin Hansil, and Rebecca Hansil.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two nephews, Reece Watson and Wesley Smith and sister-in-law, Barbara Hansil.

The Watson Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes Downtown Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Guests are invited to join the family at their home following the ceremony.

Family and friends who are unable to attend the service can view the Livestream by clicking on the "WATCH EVENT" button located in the Services section on Larry's obituary page at www.thomasmcafee.com.

I first met Larry the summer before the seventh grade. I had just moved to Bradley where he lived. We quickly became close friends through junior high, high school, and Clemson. After leaving Clemson our lives took us a thousand miles apart but he always kept in touch, keeping me abreast of the GHS class of 74 news and the latest Clemson happenings. I will sorely miss those conversations but cherish the memories. Thank you Larry for having made my life sweeter.
