You're on my mind today, just like everyday. Brandon is home from Graduate school, he'll graduate with his masters in May. Momma is downstairs yelling at the Panthers game (as always haha), and I'm in my room.. looking at pictures of Paisley, your granddaughter and my little girl. I know you're taking such good care of her until I can see you both again. I'm so much better than I've been in over 5 years.. and I know I have you and Momma, and Paisley to thank for that. You'd be so proud of mom and Brandon. He looks and acts more like you every day. It's anazin. Mom has done it all on her own since you left us. It hasn't been easy at all.. I haven't made it easy on her in the past, but she's stayed strong for you and me and she's done it. She's done such a good job. I love you so much daddy.. not a day goes by that I don't think of you and miss you, and wish so badly that you were here with the 3 Of us again. I can't wait to see you and my daughter again someday.

I'm so honored that you thought of me, my husband was such a wonderful man and to know he is thought of by people other than just my daughter and myself, his mother and brothers, his children and their mother is heartwarming. Michelle Ray Adams, I participated in a memorial walk today, September 11, 2016 in St. Louis, Mo. We walked approximately 16 miles when we approached Art Hill where 7,000 flags, dog tag & picture of lives lost in military since 2001. The organization is Flags of Valor. I asked my husband to take a picture of me by one of the flags. Randomly I stood next to SSG Leonard Adams. I wanted to reach out to you and your family letting you know his military service & sacrifice is not forgotten.

Len, here I am again writing you yet another note. It's been eight years and I miss you just as much today as I did eight years ago. I miss picking up the phone and hearing you say "Hey, what are you doing?" I miss you calling me every week just to hear my voice. I miss that big ole smile that you always had no matter what. I want to tell you a little about Lauren and Brandon. They are both all grown up. They are both in College and you would be so proud of them. As a matter of fact Lauren is going to Western Carolina. She said she wanted to go where her Dad went. Brandon is such a big guy now. He must be six feet and very much in shape. He likes to do all the things you use to do. He works out, runs and even likes the same TV shows that you liked. I see so muh of you in him. Lauren is stil small. She has you personality for sure. She favors you a lot also. A very pretty young lady. And me, well I am getting old but doing OK. I am still very active. You would like to know that I am walking over two miles five days a week. I also go to the gym quite a bit. You taught me well. Brad and Bobby both do a good job of looking after me. We are all OK Len. We miss you and love you so much. You will always live in our hearts.

Always, Mommie

Missing you everyday still...not just today. Our two kids are doing what we always wanted them to do...both are in college, doing well and trying hard to make the best possible future for themselves. I know you are as proud of them as I am. We love you and will never, ever forget all the influences that you still have on our lives.
Love always, Jana

I miss your smile, I miss your laugh, your hugs and kisses and that twinkle in your eyes! I miss your beautiful heart, and how just being near you made everything alright. I love you as much today as the day we fell in love, I always will. I still cry everytime I hear Shania sing our song. Heck, I cry everytime one of our songs comes on, or another Military family goes through our journey, I even cry in thanks for those that make it home. Please know you are never ever forgotten!! That would be impossible...because you see, you still live in my heart and in the hearts of our children and our true friends. Forever yours! Me

It's been 6 years . . . And yet it feels like it was just this morning when I received the knock on our door that broke me. I know you are in Heaven with God, your father, grandparents and Uncle Jack. I know you are at peace and sitting up there with that precious smile and laughter coming from you daily. I rejoice in that but none of it stops me from missing you just as much today as the day you left to serve our country or the day you left this earth . . . My heart just aches. I miss you-I love you!!! Forever and ever, amen.

To the family of Len Adams,
I remember his laugh more that anything else and after all these years I got an email with a picture of his children in it today and once again I saw his smile in the smile of his children. It was precious! His son looks so much like him! I wanted to pass along my expression of sympathy to his family and all that loved and cared for him. I remember the summer he came back from boot camp. I laughed and told everyone, he made all of us want to get organized. Thank you Len for serving our country! I know that you are greatly missed. Until we all meet again....

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Leonard, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Brave Sgt. Leonard W. Adams,

It looks as though God needed an MP in Heaven. Not to keep order of course because I don't imagine there's too much need for that up there, but in spirit. If you need strength, courage, discipline and a feeling of being protected against all comers, who better than an MP could you get to add to your Kingdom. But beside all that, I just wanted to thank you for having the guts to leave your established life, where you had so much going for you, to serve your country so honorably. Thank you for putting my welfare above your own. Thank you for giving your little children someone to look up to. Thank you for giving them a good example which they will never forget and which will make them good citizens. Thank you for your courage. Sleep well brave soul and rest in God's embrace. You have done your family, friends and your country well.

While was looking through some photos of my late father while in service in the Phillipines during WWII, noted one had the name Leonard Adams, Dutch New Guinea, 1944 written on the back, and knowing serving in the military is often influenced by a father, a Google search lead me to Sgt. Adams Guest Book. I am a female that served as an FBI Agent, ret in 1996, and old habits die hard...

Hey Len,
I was thinking about you, when I heard that Lauren was graduating from High School, and I found myself smiling, as I imagined how proud you would be.

I'm sure, as you watch over the family, you are flashing that signature smile and beaming with delight.

You know, you and your family are never far from my thoughts.

Your Daughter graduating from high school, reminds me that the years do pass us by, quickly.

I plan to join your family to celebrate this occasion; to show support for Lauren and as a salute to you!

So here's to you Len, you will always be remembered as a Great Father, a Brave Soldier and a really Good Friend to me.

Len, It has taken me a long time to write this to you. I miss you and the kids miss you. You would be so proud of them. Lauren has your sense of humor and your strength and Brandon is so much like you that it is remarkable. He loves trivia, history and all kinds of things...just like you. In the short time you had with them, you left such a wonderful impression on them that will last forever. I won't ever let them forget anything, I promise. They will always know how wonderful you truly are and how much you loved them. Please keep watching over them and know that we all love you.

Len,It has been three long years since God called you home to live with him. Sometimes I still can't believe that you are gone forever. At first I asked why did God take you so early in life? Why not me instead? Now I think I know why. He needed a very Special Angel, so he chose you. Len, he knew you were the perfect one. You had such a gentle and loving heart. You always looked for the good in everyone. You were always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. You had a smile for everyone and so much love for you children and family. How could he not pick you? My life has not and will never be the same without you. I still miss you like it was yesterday. But I know now that I have a Guardian Angel watching over me at all times. Sometimes I can feel you near and it is a good feeling. Len I miss you so much, you will always live in my heart with all the wonderful memories I have of you. I can just close my eyes and see your big smile and it warms my heart. Rest in peace My Son. Your work on earth is done and know that I will see you again someday.

You folks, family and freinds,Like his dad stated GOD NEEDED ANOTHER ANGEL.I am real sorry for the family and my prayers are with you, and just remember, like the quote from the great Rev Billy Graham said about when he died,( DONT BELIEVE A WORD OF IT HE JUST CHANGED ADDRESS)AND THAT IS THE CASE WITH LEN ALSO, HES IN HEAVEN WAITING FOR ALL THAT LOVED HIM,Len we miss you buddy. To the Family of Sgt. Leonard W. Adams:
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I want to express my sincere condolences to the family of Sgt. Leonard W. Adams. The heart of a volunteer is special, and I'm proud and grateful of each and everyone who sacrifices for this great country. I didn't know Sgt. Adams personally, but because I too have a father who served in the Army with 2 campaigns in Vietnam and I am from Mooresville, I feel great pride knowing his courage and strength. Thank you Sgt. Leonard W. Adams and those that survive him in their memories, Godspeed.

Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I did not attend Len's funeral. I appoligize to the family for that; however, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I have great memories of Len and want to keep them. He was an amazing person. I have not in my life time seen anyone who had a heart as pure a Len's. No one among us good could live to his principles. Rest in Peace Len you're with our father.

Mish'l, Tay and family. The first time I met Len I knew he was a keeper. I have never seen Mish'l smile and laugh so much. It was wonderful to see her and Tay so happy. Tay had a great Man to be her Daddy, and I know that you found your one true love. That alone is something not many people find in a life time. You are blessed. I love you and my thoughts and prayers are with you always.
We love you so much!

Len, I haven't known you as long as others, yet you made me feel like I belonged. You had the gift of acceptance and wisdom to never judge. You always treated everyone equal and fair. For that... you will be Blessed by our All Mighty God!!! He'll be happy to have you in His Kingdom. God Bless you and we all miss you.

My friend,my brother in arms,my buddy -Oh God-how I miss you! You were always there for me no matter what-to listen, give advice,to laugh at or with me,to help me,to keep me out of trouble,to make the guard fun and to be my friend. There is an empty part of me only your friendship could fill. Len, knowing you made me a better person. There are really no words to explain what Len's friendship meant to me-I was just lucky to have it. Len,I miss you!And I hope you are keeping someone awake in heaven with your snoring.

I want to say first of all how proud of this young man and I'm so very sorry for his families loss. I want the family to know that I am very proud of each and every person who fights for our rights here and gives us the freedom to live like we live. I have a brother right now serving in Kwait and I worry each and every day for him and everyone over there. I want to say that you have a very special place in my heart and thank you very much.

Much to my misfortune, I never met Len Adams. I have, however, had the great pleasure of knowing his father. Bob Adams is one of the truly good people I have known, so I know what a good man his son must have been. As the father of a young son, my heart goes out to Bob and Shirley. But again, knowing Bob's character, I am sure that he remains strong and proud of Len, despite his great grief. I am truly humbled by Len's selfless service to our country. My condolences, Shirley and Bob. You will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Scott.

Dear Family:
It was not until this evening that I even knew of Len's passing. I was watching TV as they ran the names and pictures of our fallen troops. I met Len along time ago at Jeff's Ham House. I was working there as a waitress and he would come in from time to time to eat lunch. I was young and had just moved here from PA- I didn't know very many people at the time, but he had a way of making me feel welcome to the community. I am 33 years old now, married and the mother of a 3 year old son. A long way from the Ham House days. I remember him though as if were yesterday. I am sorry for your loss. Please know that my family is forever grateful for his service to our country. Peace be with you.

Dear Michelle, Brandon, Lauren, Taylor, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams,

As a native Tarheel, may I offer my condolences to you all upon the passing of your American hero husband/Daddy/son, Len, in Iraq in late January.

Please know that other Americans share in your loss and are concerned. May God continue to bless you with His peace, comfort, and strength during this difficult time.

May Len's bravery and his devotion to our country and its safety be a source of pride to your family, an inspiration to his peers, and forever remembered by a grateful nation.

Len's sacrifice is not unlike those Tarheels in times past who gave their all for freedom's sake in places with such names as Cerro Gordo, Gettysburg, Ardenne Forest, Normandy, Pork Chop Hill, and Pleiku.

Sincerely, with deepest sympathy,
Major Arnold Huskins, USAF

Dear Bob and Shirley Adams:

Although we have never met, we have a common connection-- The uniform of our Armed Forces. Although your son's uniform probably represents another branch of service, all who serve, and have served are comrades in arms. The young troops are our little brothers in uniform. And, we veterans care as much for them as we did for those who fought with us and, before us. So, please know, as a retired Navy Combat Photographer, I too grieve for the loss of your beloved son. As I do all those who have lost their lives while in the service of our country.

I am all too familiar with the pain you are experiencing from the loss of your son. We lost our young soldier son nine years ago. The recovery has been difficult for my family. We have found that our constant talking about him has been the best medicine possible to ease the hurt of our loss. I recommend it.

I just read your open letter in the new issue of the American Legion Magazine, about your son's Blue and Gold Star Banners, Please display that Gold Star Banner prominently. Your neighbors need to see how proud you are of your son's service to his country. He deserves it. And I'm sure he would want that.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

For God and Country,

Bill Lewis, USNR Ret.
