Lois Goble Obituary

Lois Hunter Goble CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Goble, 84, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Lois was born in Pilot Mountain, NC August 27, 1928, daughter of the late Kate Stone Hunter and Robah Howard Hunter of Pilot Mountain, NC. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Edd Hunter and a son Dr. James R. Goble, Jr. of Marion, NC. Lois had perfect attendance during all of her public school years until she missed one day the last week before she graduated from Pilot Mountain High School in 1945. She graduated from Mars Hill College in 1947 and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (formerly Woman's College of UNC) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1949. She later attended UNCC where she earned her elementary education teaching certification. Lois taught Home Economics in Alexander County for two years, then in Mecklenburg County for two years before teaching fourth grade in Mecklenburg County for 16 years. She retired from teaching in 1986. The priorities in Lois' life were Faith, Family, and Friends. Just as she was diligent in school, she was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a faithful and loving wife, the best mother anyone could have, and was true to her many friends. She was always there for anyone who needed help and freely gave of herself for others. In addition, she loved gardening and music and had a great sense of humor. Lois was a very active member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church for 58 years where she taught Sunday School in the Children's Department and worked with the Children's choirs. She was a member of the Sunago Choir and a member of the WMU and WOM (women's mission groups). For years Lois chaired the History Committee and headed the church's centennial library exhibition. Lois is survived by her husband of 61 years, James R. Goble ("Ray"), daughter Ann Goble Hill (Richard Hill) of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons Dr. David R. Goble (Dr. Trisha Goble) of Granite Falls, NC, Thomas L. Goble (Lindsey Goble) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Dr. Daniel J. Goble of Greenville, NC; great-grandson Brady D. Goble of Granite Falls, NC; daughter-in-law Anna H. Goble Talley (Toby Talley) of Marion, NC; brother Bill Stone Hunter of Cocoa Beach, FL; sister Kathryn Hunter Martinat (Don Martinat) of Pilot Mountain, NC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, with visitation at the church to follow. The burial will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Hills Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203 or the Jim Goble Mission House, Story Presbyterian Church, 400 Shady Lane, Marion, NC 28752. Dearest Ann and Ray -- Lois was a wonderfully giving and selfless person who was a cherished friend to so many (including my parents, Allen and Carolyn Fry, who loved her). Her memory and example will last forever in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. God bless your family with happy memories of Lois, a true angel.

I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Goble's passing. I remember her gentle spirit with great fondness. She had such a sweet disposition. She was also a wonderful teacher of children. I enjoyed having her as a teacher. What a great family she had. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
