Lynn Rhinehardt Obituary

(Iris) Lynn Thompson Rhinehardt of Charlotte NC went to be with our Lord on December 19, 2024, after a long illness.

She was born in Canton, NC on May 12, 1944, to the late Judd Curtis

and Mary Lee Pryor Thompson. Lynn attended Edneyville Elementary School near Bat Cave, NC with her brothers, many cousins, and was taught by several of her aunts and uncles.

After her parents died, she moved to Charlotte, NC, at age 15, to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Glenda Thompson. She graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 1962 and attended Kings Business College and UNC Charlotte where she took accounting and business courses. Her first job after graduation was with Esso in the accounts receivable department.

Lynn met the love of her life, John (Johnny) Rhinehardt in 1960, and they were married at Belmont Abbey Basilica in 1963. After her 3 sons were born, Lynn spent the next 18 plus years raising and nurturing them. There were many long trips and long hours spent on soccer fields happily watching her boys excel at their sport. When her boys graduated from college, she went to work for Charlotte Pipe and Foundry in the Finance Department as Credit Manager and was there 32 years. During this time Lynn received many accreditations through course study and continuing education. She also belonged to several credit groups.

Lynn was very proud of her association and success with Charlotte Pipe and made many lifelong friends there.

After retiring in December 2013, Lynn spent time with "Her Johnny" living in the mountains in Roaring Gap, NC where they enjoyed membership in Olde Beau Resort and Golf Club for many years. They played golf and graciously entertained family and friends. Lynn and John also enjoyed entertaining their grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews for many years with their famous Camp Grand Mom and Camp Grand Dad. They used this time to teach them about life while having fun.

Her relaxing time was spent reading, traveling, cooking, and most joyfully, "Pulling Weeds".

She loved her beautiful home in the mountains and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends with many parties, weddings, and cookouts.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

In addition to her parents, Lynn was preceded in death by her brothers

Teddy, David, Darrell, Phil, and Steve Thompson. Also preceding her in death were her beloved in-laws John and Millie Rhinehardt, Jerry Rhinehardt, Ellen Thompson, and her very special sister-in-law, Glenda Thompson who nurtured and guided her through her teen years. Lynn greatly mourned the deaths of her nephew, Keith Thompson and her niece, Tori Thompson.

Mrs. Rhinehardt is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, John L.

This very close family and friends group made many trips to Pawley's Island, SC, sometimes renting as many as 3 and 4 houses on the beach for 35-plus years. Lynn and her loved ones also gathered together at Lake Lanier in Georgia and in the mountains of our dear Western NC. Lynn treasured these times with her family and friends.
