Lynne S. Shillinglaw
March 28, 1952 - September 24, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina - Lynne Shipwash Shillinglaw passed away surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer in her home in Charlotte, NC on Friday, September 24, 2021. Born March 28, 1952, in Salisbury, NC, she was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Shipwash. She grew up in China Grove and graduated from South Rowan High in 1970, before studying education at Appalachian State University, graduating with honors. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Lynne obtained her master's degree in counseling at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Lynne loved people and life, which greatly influenced her decision to work in sales after a short career in teaching and enjoyed both. She worked as a sales representative at the Jordan Graphics Company for several years where she formed friendships and camaraderie that endured into her later career. She met her beloved husband Ron in 1976 while outside playing tennis at the apartment of a mutual friend. They were married July 1, 1978 and later were blessed by two children; daughter Lindsay (36) and son Joel (33).
Lynne took pride in hard work, family, and community, which was reflected by her enthusiasm and energy. It wasn't uncommon for Lynne to work long hours to help provide for her family, while also making time to attend, if not play an active leadership role in her children's academic, social, and extracurricular lives. She lived with passion and sincerity touching the lives and hearts of all of those she met. This is reflected by the vast community of friends she has from all aspects of her life.
She loved working in her garden, and planting all types of flowers. Mornings you could find her enjoying a cup of coffee on the patio, taking in the splendor of the day in the comfort of her bathrobe. Lynne lived with a heart of gratitude and greatly valued her faith and relationship with God. She also enjoyed sunsets at the beach, a glass of white wine with friends, day trips to the mountains or skiing, and a necessary pedicure once in a while.
Lynne loved sports and had a soft heart for animals. It wasn't uncommon for her to be watching, intensely, any of her teams on game night with her dogs Annie and Rambo right by her side. Tailgating for Wake Forest football games with her husband Ron and friends was a yearly tradition.
Her giving and generous spirit was never ending. She found so much joy and pleasure in making others feel special and always made sure to tell people how much they meant to her. Nothing brought her greater fulfillment than to be able to support those around her, Loyalty to her parents and siblings was a value she held high. The oldest of the three, her family bonds endured unconditionally.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; her devoted daughter, Lindsay of Denver, Colorado; her son, Joel of Chicago, Illinois and his son, Alexander; her parents Fred and Elizabeth Shipwash of China Grove, North Carolina; her sister Cindy Andrew of St. Augustine, Florida; her brother, Steve Shipwash of Benson, North Carolina and his children, Brandon and Stephanie.
A service to honor Lynne's life will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207. The family will receive friends following the service in Oxford Hall. The service will also be available online for those who are unable to attend at www.myersparkpres.org/funerals.
In lieu of flowers or gifts Lynne requests that donations be made to PANCAN to support research and advancement in the fight against Pancreatic Cancer. https://www.pancan.org

To Ron and the entire family, Lynne has been part of my life for many years in the business world though I considered her a friend, and I am deeply saddened for your loss. I am sending prayers to you all and want you to know I believe she was special to everyone she met. She was a true light in this world, and I will miss her dearly. I wish she could stay here with us forever, but I am comforted knowing there is a special angel like Lynne watching over us now. She will never be forgotten. Sending love to you all.
