M. Heath Obituary

M. Lee Heath, Jr. CHARLOTTE - Mr. Heath, of Charlotte, N.C, died on September 4, 2012. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 25, 1952. He was the son of Anne Purnell Heath of Richmond, Virginia, and the late M. Lee Heath. Mr. Heath graduated from Virginia Episcopal High School ("VES") in Lynchburg, VA, and North Carolina State University, where he was on both the varsity tennis and fencing teams. He was an avid tennis player and, even after his ACC accomplishments, won many tennis and squash tournaments and championships including every category of racquet championship at The Charlotte Country Club. When prevented from continuing to participate in tennis and squash due to a variety of orthopedic issues, Lee started playing more golf. He very much enjoyed playing a round of golf on a beautiful day and Lee's golf friends appreciated his diligent organization of their informal group. Lee began his 37-year Federal Government career with the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a Secret Service Agent during the administration of President Ford. During his training, he quickly became certified as an Expert Marksman. Most recently, he served as a Senior Special Agent for the Federal Investigative Service. In addition to his work, which he greatly enjoyed, he was a devoted alumnus of VES, an active member of The Society of The Cincinnati, and a member of Christ Episcopal Church and The Charlotte Country Club. As a member of The Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, Lee enjoyed not only shooting but sharing his vast knowledge of firearms and their safety with his friends. He also looked forward to dove hunting in the fall and spent many weekend afternoons honing his archery skills. He loved cats and dogs, especially his Jack Russell terriers. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Anne Heath Hardage, of Richmond, Virginia; two nieces, Heath Hardage Lee (James Christopher) of Des Moines, Iowa and Morgan Hardage Engel (Matthew Brendon) of Richmond, Virginia and five great nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his former wife and friend, Jennifer Rokus Heath. A private burial service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on September 15, 2012, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, North Carolina. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall of the Church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Virginia Episcopal School, 400 VES Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24503. Condolences may be offered at www.HarryandBryantFuneralHome.com.

Jennifer. God bless you for what you were to Lee, and Lee for what he was to me, which was a cherished friend and one with whom I was proud to work with. We became acquainted as young agents in the early 80s. He was all that you could ask for in a dedicated agent, a friend, a Patriot. Always quick with his wit and as another mourner put it so well a "sunbeam". My heart is heavy, only remembering the good times with Lee is the salve. God bless also those who mourn his passing I will keep him and them in my prayers.

I just learned of Lee's death today and am so sorry for his family and friends. Lee and I knew each other years ago and those years are the basis of the memories I have. He was always there for his friends. He had a surprising wit that could catch you off guard. I will always remember his stories, which I continue to pass along. I'm glad I knew him.

What a shock it was when Jennifer called and told me of Lee's passing. Lee was my best friend for many years and we enjoyed playing tennis, golf, hunting and target shooting, and watching State and Carolina play football and basketball, just to mention a few pass times.
Lee will be missed by all who knew him because of his friendly nature. He was also one of the most generous friends I have known and his sense of humor was always present. The last time I saw Lee was on one of his many visits to see my brother, Richard, at the nursing home after his stroke. This condolence is for him also. We will miss you, Lee.

Sincerely, Lawrence & Richard Connelly

Dear Mrs. Heath,

It was with great sorrow to learn of Lee's passing. Growing up with Lee during Elementary School Years at Sharon School, I valued Lee as a schoolmate and a good friend. It was always fun coming over to your home with Lee after school and the hospitality that was shown by you to all his friends. Although, I didn't get to see Lee much after Sharon School… We ran into each other from time to time and it was always fun to renew that friendship and find out what each other had been up to. He will dearly be missed and I hope that fond memories will soon replace his leaving us.

Respectfully,
John Cameron Morrison

Heartfelt sympathy and much love to you as you go through this time of grief.
Lee was one of those extraordinary people who will never be forgotten. His life was like a sunbeam that lifted up the world around him. Now we can bask in the rainbow of memories that we'll nurture in the year ahead.
Now won't be the same without him by any means, but we will go on the best we can and looking forward to the day we will meet again in eternity

Lee and I were coworkers and friends with DIS/DSS for over 10 years. We often shared good conversation over lunch and frequent rides together on duty assignments. I respected Lee for his professionalism as a federal agent and his love for our country. My faith tells me that Lee is with our Lord and at peace. My condolences to all his family and friends.
