Marguerite Mary Holland

Mrs. Marguerite Mary Holland died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 9, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Peggy was born March 9, 1935 in New York City to the late Michael and Margaret O'Connell of County Cary Ireland. She attended St. Elizabeth College Preparatory School in Manhattan and the Assisium Business School. After attending St. John's University School of Business, she pursued her life long dream as a United Airlines Stewardess.
Peggy will always be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. She spent countless hours volunteering her time to counseling families with alcohol related problems.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Darrell Holland; son Thomas Palmer and his wife Dana of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter Patricia Palmer of Charlotte; daughter Christine Clark and her husband Frank of Charlotte; her beloved grandsons Brandon, Josh, and Benjamin Palmer and granddaughters Margaret, Mary-Kathryn, and Lillian Clark. Also surviving is her brother Brendan O'Connell and wife Pat of St. Augustine, FL, along with sister-in-law Peggy O'Connell of Long Island, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is survived by her four stepchildren, son, David Holland and wife Cathy of Charlotte; daughter, Jean Benton and husband, Don of Winston-Salem; daughter, Tammy Dixon and husband Fred of Charlotte; and son, Dale Holland and wife Melissa of Charlotte; and also seven step grandchildren.
A mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, September 13, 2002 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road. The celebrant is Rev. Richard Bellow. Inurnment will follow in St. Gabriel's columbarium and memorial garden.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. James Boyd, MD and staff along with Hospice at Charlotte.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Gabriel Catholic Church Bereavement Ministry, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC and/or Pediatric Glaucoma, The Duke Eye Center, Attention: Dr. Sharon Freeman., P.O. Box 3802 Durham, NC 27710 in honor of her granddaughter Mary-Kathryn Clark.
