Mary Smitherman Obituary
Alexander Smitherman
Mrs. Smitherman, of Mooresville, NC, formerly of Charlotte, NC died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in her home. She is survived by her sons, Clay and Jim Smitherman; grandchildren, Lisa, David, Rachel, and Natalie Smitherman; sister Abbie Dryden and brother Bill Alexander. She is preceded in death by her husband John Smitherman II and son John III.
Mary was born January 17, 1932 in Quincy, Florida. She grew up in Atlanta and graduated from the University of Georgia. She was an active member of Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte where she directed the preschool program for a number of years. Mary participated in many women's programs at the church.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, with Reverend William E. Roth officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, The Younger Children's Ministry, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207, or to a charity of one's choice.

Abbie and Bill,
I was so sorry to hear about your sister.May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
She gave so much in life, God has a gift waiting for her in death. Sickness will vanish. As Ruler of God’s heavenly Kingdom, Jesus will do healing on a far grander scale than when he was on earth. Then “no resident will say: ‘I am sick.’”

I'm sorry to hear of your mother's passing, there was a time when she was practically a second mother to me. I hope you are comforted in the knowledge that she left everyone she touched a better person for it.

Melvin and I send our thoughts and prayers to the family. Mary was indeed a very lovely and dedicated woman, to God and her many friends. Being a roommate on two separate occasions was an especially treasured treat for me, as I got to know and love her so much.
