Meggan Farr Obituary

Meggan Wrenn Farr

October 16, 1977 - May 6, 2024

Portland, Oregon - Meggan Wrenn Farr's precious soul returned to her heavenly father on May 6, 2024. She died of sudden cardiac arrest after a month-long stay in Intensive Care and Critical Care Units in Portland, Oregon, bravely fighting toxic septic shock and all its accompanying devastations in her usual valiant way. The origin of the staph bacteria was never found.

Meggan was the beloved daughter of Dave and Phyllis Farr of Charlotte, NC. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving wife, Bev Basham of Portland, uncle David Pollard of Charlotte, dear aunts and uncles from afar, lots of fun cousins, many amazing friends, and three dogs and two cats, the leader of this pack being Chi-Chi Rodriguez, her three-legged Chihuahua.

She graduated from UNC-Asheville, receiving a BA in Psychology, and worked arduously with diverse autistic people before moving to Portland. Inspired by some stellar nurses from her childhood and aware of her own natural compassion and empathy, Meggan enrolled at Linfield University in Portland, Oregon, where she received a BS in Nursing. She was served well by her natural curiosity, her love of learning, and by being a calm problem solver. She thrived in the Portland medical community working at several facilities including two hospitals and a dialysis clinic, acquiring new and valuable skills with each advancement. She enjoyed living and working in Portland and made jolly good use of the area's "clean and green" resources especially snowboarding down Mt. Hood, camping in glorious woods, kayaking in pristine waters, hiking, and biking. Her most happy place, though, was enjoying the natural wonders of Hawaii, relaxing and kite boarding in Kailua Bay on Oahu and snorkeling and swimming with sea turtles and an occasional whale off the coast of Maui.

A Celebration of Life service was held at The Unity Spiritual Center of Portland on May 13, 2024. West coast family, friends, co-workers, and patients remembered Meggan as being a positive life force, full of light, exceptionally good at living in the moment, being authentic, being accepting of everyone, standing up for what she believed in, having healing hands and a nurse's heart, having a hilarious and contagious sense of humor and amazing nursing skills, as well as being a wonderfully loyal friend. She grew up playing golf with Dave and adopting every species of animal in the area (except snakes) who needed a home or that the pet stores had to offer.

Dave and Phyllis are immensely grateful to and appreciative of the blessing of kind family members and friends who made it possible for Phyllis to be with Meggan at the hospital in Portland the last month of Meggan's life on Earth. Your support means the world to us. Sincere thanks to you all.

Snake and Phyllis. Just no words to lessen this loss or heal your pain. I´m holding you all and Bev and Meghan´s soul in my prayers. I was sharing with someone the other day about MPCC and swimming for Meggan. I was deeply impacted by her cancer journey as a child at that time. She was so precious and so young and so brave! I admired that. The thought of her being a nurse and sharing in the healing of so many tells me that precious brave little girl I remember grew into a spectacular young lady! And her work with diverse autistic people also speaks volumes to the living compassionate human she must have been. May your time spent sleeping offer you immense soulful rest filled with beautiful dreams and memories of your precious girl. And may time awake be filled with peaceful memories and compassion to care for yourselves during such a hard time, loads of memories and the comfort of knowing the veil is thin and she will never be far away and you will see her again! In prayers of peace much love,
Kat

Phyllis and Dave,
We just now found out about Megan and were stunned. We are so very sorry. What an extraordinary person and life she had. Of course it brought back many memories of our days of IBM (travel to California), playing bridge, being pregnant together and having our little girls. AND how incredibly strong she and both of you were when Megan was cruelly struck with cancer. I sit here crying with all the memories. But your continual strength and her determination resulted in her accomplishing many wonderful things. We would like to do something for you and would have participated in your going to Oregon had we known. Pls. let us know what we can do. I'm trying to reach Shirley and Melina now but maybe they already know. Would love to hear from you.
Our love to you all.

Oh my sweet Meggan. I miss you everyday. Some days it is so gripping I feel I just don´t know how I can move and function within this loss and grief. Sometimes I laugh about a memory that hits me in the midst of the tears, a shared piece of our time that remains vibrant and alive within. You are forever in my heart and my soul. You live in the lives of the many whom you touched and who remember and love you. I will always do my best to be the woman you believed me to be, the better version of myself that you knew I could be. I will live in honor of you always and will love you for all of my days.
With all of my heart, all of my mind, all of my soul,
Your wife, Bev

Meggan was so special to me and my two daughters. Every time that I had the privilege to see her I felt like laughing (about anything) because she was such a positive force, particularly with her beautiful smile and happy self!
We had some nice things in common like our love for the same music. We also shared together an interest in fun magic tricks. She was so fun to be around. I'll never forget our Meggan!

I'll never forget sitting in the pew behind adorable "squirmy" 4 year old Meggan (already showing her endless energy) and her family at Mouzon United Methodist Church. She packed a lot of life and love in her years with us and that love continues to ripple out in ways we will never know. Phyllis and Dave, thank you for sharing her life with us. She will never be forgotten.
