P.C. Hull Obituary

Dr. P.C. Hull, Jr. CHARLOTTE - Dr. P.C. Hull, Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlotte, passed away on March 5, 2013, at Sharon Towers Retirement Community. He was born October 10, 1915, to Dr. and Mrs. P.C. Hull, Sr. In addition to his parents, P.C. is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Rubye Eugenia Rogers Hull, who passed away in 2010, his brothers, William J. Hull and Dr. Robert Zach Hull, his sisters, Lucy Louise Hull Foster and Peggy Lee Hull Rosenberg. He is survived by his spouse of two years, Peggie Lafferty Austin; his children - Peggy Anne Hull Clemens of Charlotte and Dr. James C. Hull and wife Virginia of Charlotte; his sister Frances Hull Marion of Charlotte; grandchildren - Katherine Eugenia Clemens Ray and husband Billy of Winston Salem; Carter Alexander Hull and wife Kristin of Charlotte; Dr. James Turner Hull of Charlotte; Sarah Elizabeth Clemens Galer of Fort Myers, FL; Jessica Lee Hull of Charlotte; and Jordan Christian Hull of Charlotte and great grandchildren - Davis Carter, Aubrey Grace and Dawson James Hull of Charlotte; and Sarah Elizabeth and William Carl Ray IV of Winston Salem. P.C. completed his early education in the Charlotte public school system and graduated from Central High School in 1934. He then went on to Erskine College in Due West, SC, where he was president of his senior class and the starting first baseman of the baseball team, which won the 1936 South Carolina State Championship. P.C. then earned his DDS degree in 1942 from Emory University Dental School in Atlanta. He began practicing dentistry with his father but shortly after enlisted in the Navy and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During World War II, P.C. served as a Naval dentist based in Parris Island, SC, and after the war, he returned to his father's dental practice in Charlotte and then continued his education in the orthodontic residency program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. He practiced orthodontics in Charlotte for over 25 years. The orthodontic practice he started in 1950 is still thriving as Drs. Hull and Coleman, with his son James and grandson Turner following in P.C.'s legacy. P.C. loved spending time with his friends and family, whether at a baseball game or at a Sharon Towers breakfast table. His commitment to his community is exemplified by the George Elliot quote that adorned his office wall- "What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other?" P.C. took great joy in spending much of his time in the service of others, through the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, the Kiwanis Club and the YMCA. P.C. was the last surviving charter member of Myers Park United Methodist Church and looked forward every Sunday to the Luther Snyder Sunday School class. He will be interred in the columbarium at the church. A memorial service to celebrate P.C.'s life will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church with The Reverend Bill Roth and The Reverend Barbara Barden officiating. The family will receive friends in Jubilee Hall at the church following the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sharon Towers for their care and friendship and to Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207 or to the Resident's Assistance Fund at Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. J.B. Tallent Funeral Service is assisting his family.

Dr. Hull, you were an inspiration to a young man who was searching for "the best job in America". I remember you as my orthodontist when I was 12 years old enjoying every minute of being with the kids and loving what you do. I'll never forget what you meant to me.

My wife Carole and I were blessed to be next door neighbors of Dr and Mrs. Hull and are sad to hear of this loss. Dr. Hull was a great man of faith and grace. We shared much while I served in Charlotte at Holy Comforter but I will always remember our trips to see the Knights play. Dr. Hull enjoyed the game because he knew well the point was to get Home and now he is Home with His Lord. Eternal Rest To you PC and may light perpetual shine upon you. Amen

P. C. is well remembered by me. When I was one of the ministers at Myers Park United Methodist Church, he was one of the most faithful members. I now teach the Luther Snyder Class every other month, and P. C. is also well remembered by the members of that class. He will also be remembered as the last of the charter members of the church. Rest well, P. C.
