Dearest Nancy and family.
I am finally able to try and put down a few words about a college fraternity brother and friend whose passing was way too soon.
We were just starting to enjoy our times cruising together around the world and were looking forward to many more years of renewed friendship after reconnecting so many years after college. Phil was a fun guy, a good friend, hard worker who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be missed by many, but he will be with us in spirit . Rest In Peace .

Dear Nancy,
It was very sad to learn of Phil's passing. I worked with him in my capacity as Professor of Military Science and Tactics at the University of Tennessee. He was a straight shooter who was a strong supporter of the Army ROTC program. His support and wise counsel were invaluable. May he rest in peace.

Dear Nancy and Family
I was saddened to learn of Phil's death. I interacted with him many times over the years I was active in University politics here at UTK and liked and respected him. We will all miss him.

Dear Nancy,
So sad to hear of Phil’s passing. Martha and I were your neighbors across the street way back when on Grenada Blvd.
I remember Phil always ready to help a neighbor.
When I lawnmowered my toes off, Phil drove me to Fort Sanders. I think he was more upset about it than I was. A fine man.
Martha passed of cancer in 2002. She lies at Highland Memorial.
I hope you and your family are well. I know this is a bad time for you. If I can help in any way, please let me know.
With sympathy and warmest regards,
Ron Webb

Phil made a difference in my life. I worked with him while I attended UT from 1970-74. He was an amazing administrator and advisor. He paid forward to make a difference in students' lives. I recently retired as a university administrator, and I attribute much of my style and success to what I learned from Phil. Thank you for sharing him with thousands of students. We are better for knowing him.

Dear Nancy,
We were so saddened to learn from Erika about Phil's passing and can only imagine the loss of his presence that you are feeling. Words cannot capture what we would like to express, but please know that we are with you in thoughts and prayers. Of course so much of our memories and relationship with you and Phil are from association with Ladies of Charity, where you might be considered "Mrs. and Mr. LOC," possibly in concert with Erika and Joe. So much of our involvement over the years was influenced by the care and examples you gave. Phil was one of the primary educators in how to perform Intake at LOC, and our son Michael was stunned to hear that Mr. Phil had passed away. We are betting that Phil and Joe will get together and discuss the past and future of LOC with St. Vincent DePaul.
Love and prayers to you and all your Family,
Bill, Karen, and our Family

I will always remember Phil as a trusted friend, colleague, and mentor. Phil could be a jokester at times, but when it was time to be serious, he was all business. I will miss our frank conversations and his timely advice. Rest In Peace my friend. Clif Woods

My condolences to the entire family during this difficult time. Mr. Scheurer was always so kind to me during the 4 yrs I worked as a Student Assistant in the Chancellor’s Office at UTK. He always had a smile on his face and had an encouraging word or antidote for all of the students who worked on that floor in Andy Holt Tower.

Nancy: So very sad to learn of Phil’s passing. Please know that John and I are thinking about you and your entire family during this difficult time. I remember the lovely lunch we had at the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island last fall and reminiscing about UT days. We always enjoyed visiting with you guys when we were in the Charleston area. Hard to believe he is gone too soon.

Sending love and missing him already, as I know you and family must exponentially do. I will always appreciate him, his friendship, his hard (and smart) work, his laughter, his drive, and his call to help those whom he loved, no matter the cost to himself. Coming to my house that night is an example of the personal costs you both accepted, and I will never, ever, forget your great kindness then and always. I am always in your debt, and sending hugs all around.

Nancy: We extend our deepest sympathies. We enjoyed visiting with you and Phil during our visits to Charleston and are so sorry that he lost his battle at what we now know is a young age.
