Raymond Roscoe Wagoner
REIDSVILLE -- Mr. Wagoner,88, formerly of Park Lane died Tuesday (Sept.30) at Golden Living Center at Starmount in Greensboro.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00PM Friday (Oct. 3) at First Baptist Church and burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with military rites by the Rockingham Co. Veteran's Honor Guard.
A native of Rockingham Co. he was a son of the late Milton Lonnie and Annie Stallings Wagoner and had lived most of his life in Reidsville. Raymond was the owner of Wagoner Electric Company, which he ran for fifty years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and served in the 687th Ammo Co. of the 5th Army form 1942 until 1945. He went across North Africa and into Italy and made many life long friends during his service to his country and they had reunions for fifty years. Raymond was known to entertain all who would listen with stories of his army days as well as the tales of the 'Farmer Skeeters' and many others.
Raymond loved playing golf and once had a hole-in-one. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and in his youth was a member of Mizpah United Methodist church. He was a past secretary of the N.C. Jaycees and past president of the Cherokee Council BSA. Raymond was a long time supporter of Boy Scouts and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for his service to scouting. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and was known for his ability to pull nickels and later quarters from the ears of his grandchildren and his grand nieces and grand nephews. He was a friend to many, a loving husband, father and grandfather. His presence will be missed.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years: Marion Grey Tuck Wagoner, sisters: Frances Jones & Isabelle Hill, and by his brother: M. L. Wagoner.
Surviving are Sons; Roscoe Wagoner and wife, Sara of Charlotte, Mark Wagoner and wife, Lynn of Greensboro, Tom Wagoner and wife, Lynn of Reidsville; grandchildren; Nora Moore and husband, Brian, Lauren Wagoner, Tommy Wagoner, Andy Wagoner & Emily Wagoner.
The family will see friends from 7:00 till 9:00PM Thursday (Oct. 2) at Citty Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his son: Tom Wagoner 1002 Autumn Ln. Reidsville, NC 27320. Memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church 409 S. Main St. Reidsville, NC 27320 or to Boy Scouts of America Old North State Council 1405 Westover Terrace Greensboro, NC 27408.
