Richard Hasty Obituary

Richard E. Hasty "Buddy" CHARLOTTE - Born Nov. 11, 1929, Buddy Hasty passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 12, 2014. He was the son of the late Walter F. Hasty and Sarah Barefoot Hasty of Charlotte. He was the youngest of nine children and, in addition to his wife of 64 years Patricia Beck Hasty, he is survived by his brother, James S. Hasty of Charlotte, and sister, Sarah Hasty McWhorter of Roanoke, Va. Buddy graduated from Charlotte Tech High School in 1948 and immediately married his high school sweetheart, Pat. They lived in Goldsboro during his 40-year career with the Allison-Erwin Company, through which he built many friendships while serving his customers in eastern North Carolina. Although he loved to recall his days of starring in basketball and baseball in the city of Charlotte, he still considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family. He is also survived by his five children: Cynthia Hasty Umstead (husband Randy and children Jeff Westbrook, David Westbrook) of Townsville; Richard E. Hasty, Jr. (wife Sheree and children Taylor, Waverly, Stewart) of Charlotte; Sharon Hasty Graper (husband Dr. Robert Graper and children Gordy, Christopher, Elizabeth) of Charlotte; Patty Hasty Marsh (husband Rev. William Marsh and children Will, Ben, Anna Scott) of Greensboro and Dr. Christopher Hasty (wife Missy and children Clark, Mary Frances, Caroline) of Greenville, N.C. His greatest smiles over the years were reserved for his 14 grandchildren and, more recently, his four great-grandchildren, (Maddux, Jaxson, Cameron, Annzlee). The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the kindness and care shown by the staff of Sharon Towers to our father during his final days. A service to celebrate the life of Buddy Hasty will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. The burial at Sharon Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association to honor his wife (www.alzfdn.org) or Sharon Towers (sharontowers.org). Condolences may be offered at www.HarryandBryantFuneralHome.com.

To all the Hasty Family--We loved Buddy and felt like all of you were family with our beach place right beside your parents. We sat out on the porch every evening with your parents and shared many memories of all of you. Buddy loved all of you so much and his grandchildren too. His face would always light up when we talked about you all. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love to all of you--Alice and Kelly Tingle
