'Bob'
SALISBURY -- Mr. Allen passed away on February 18, 2005. He was born, the son of Nettie Wright Allen and Raymond Coke Allen, on March 4, 1939 in Newport News, VA. As the Lord's joyful servant, Bob will also be remembered as a devoted husband, wonderful father, loving brother, outstanding civic leader, accomplished athlete and dedicated professional.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie 'Rosie' G. Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. Allen, Jr. and wife, Amy, of Matthews, NC; son, Raymond Scott Allen of Durham, NC; step daughters, Sarah L. Bullard of Cary, NC, Holly M. Bullard of Ashland, Oregon; and his sister, Beverly Allen Barnhart of Newport News, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Allen Wollard. The family also wishes to recognize Bob's affection for his children's special friends, Billy Shipp of Cary, NC and Dr. Rosa Lin of Durham, NC.
Bob graduated with academic honors and as an All American athlete from Warwick High School in Newport News, VA. As a scholarship student at Wake Forest University, he set records as a wide-receiver for the Deacons and was drafted to play for the Buffalo Bills. Bob also attended Atlantic Christian College and Southeastern Baptist Seminary. An ordained minister, he earned degrees in philosophy and theology.
As a professional, he especially enjoyed his career with Duke Power Company. At Duke, he established the Duke Power Foundation, the Duke Scholars Program and also worked as District Manager in Charlotte, NC. Bob retired from Duke Power in 2004 as the District Manager for Rowan, Cabarrus, Stanley and Iredell Counties. Prior to his career at Duke Power, Bob worked to establish mental health agencies in NC, as an Assistant County Manager for Mecklenburg County and as VP for Development with the United Way of Charlotte.
His life was dedicated to service and Bob was honored to have chaired the boards of the NC Child Advocacy Institute, Kid's Voting North Carolina, United Way NC, the Mecklenburg Partnership for Children, NC State Parent's Association and the NC 4-H Foundation. He also served as treasurer of the North Carolina Partnership for Children, on the executive committee for the North Carolina Business Committee for Education and as a long term board leader for the NC Center for Non profits. An avid Carolina Panther fan, Bob worked on the committee to recruit the NFL Franchise to Charlotte. As a preservationist, Bob served on the Board of the National Trust for the Historic Preservation and also helped to establish the NC Transportation Museum. With a strong belief in tapping the talents of volunteers, Bob was appointed by Governors Hunt and Easley to serve on the NC Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. In Rowan County, he recently served his community as a member of the County Planning Board, and as a board member of Rowan Helping Ministries, the Historic Salisbury Foundation, the Rowan Regional Medical Foundation and the Rowan-Salisbury Chamber of Commerce.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Rowan Partnership for Children, PO Box 1036, Salisbury, NC 28145, First Presbyterian Church - Teens With a Mission, 308 W. Fisher Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 21, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Summersett Funeral Home, 1315 W. Innes Street, Salisbury. Burial will be private. A service to celebrate the life of Bob Allen will be held on Tuesday, February 22, at 11:00 AM in First Presbyterian Church, Salisbury.

The Class of '57 Warwick High School mourns the passing of one of our own. Bob was a special member and we will always remember him, his Spirit, his Love for His Savior and all his many talents. May you, his family find comfort in all your fond memories of such s Special Man. He has been taken from all of us too soon. Kitty Dale also sends her thoughts and prayers.
