Robert Cook Obituary

Robert "Robbie" Sterling Cook Sr., 61, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Harris Hospice of Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by his family.

Born June 30, 1954 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Robert Louis and Vanie Belle Flowers Cook, he was a resident of Matthews, North Carolina and a member of St. Francis United Methodist Church.

Robbie grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he graduated from Bayside High School in 1972. He received his B.A. degree from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. Robbie worked in the car industry for 35 years, priding himself on honesty and building personal relationships with his customers.

Robbie married Pam Jones Cook on August 8, 1981. They were happily married for 34 years. Robbie was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. He played basketball and ran track at Atlantic Christian, where he still holds the school record in the high jump. An avid swimmer, Robbie was in his element on the shores of Virginia Beach and Nags Head, North Carolina. Robbie loved his dogs, Boo Boo, Jax and Buster, and found great joy in spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons who knew him as "Pops." Friends, colleagues, and former teammates of Robbie's recall his positive attitude and his desire and willingness to help others.

Robbie is survived by his spouse Pam of Matthews, North Carolina; son Robert Sterling Cook Jr. (Meredith) of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter Callie Elizabeth Cook Smith (Matthew) of Waxhaw, North Carolina; step mother Wendy Cook of Plum Island, Massachusetts; sister Deborah Webb (Joe) of Chesapeake, Virginia; sister Donna Shelhorse of Richmond, Virginia; brother Ronald Cook (Gay) of Wilson, North Carolina; sister Tracy Perry of New Hampshire; sister Kelly Rogers (Jim) of Gorham, Maine; grandchildren Robert Sterling Cook III and Jackson Davis Cook; and his beloved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at St. Francis United Methodist Church, 4200 McKee Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28270 at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at St. Francis following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Francis United Methodist Church. Condolences may be left on Robbie's online guest book at www.tallentfuneralservice.com.
