Friday afternoon, Junior Johnson passed away peacefully with those he loved nearby. To the world, he was the 'Last American Hero,' but to us he was simply Dad. Our time with him barely overlapped with his racing career, but he gave us the last, and greatest, laps of his life. No amount of time, no matter how long, could have ever been enough to spend together. He never missed a night of telling us 'I love you' before bedtime, or how proud he was that we were becoming the people he'd raised us to be. He was a courageous man, a generous friend, a loving and dedicated husband, and the best father anyone could've asked for. He lives on through us, the many lives he touched, and in the sport to which he gave so much.

We would like to thank everyone who has reached out or shared a kind story about our Dad, and we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support. It has been a comfort to us all during this difficult time.

We love you Dad,

Sissy and Robert

Growing up in the midwest, I was always a fan of USAC and NASCAR. Living in North Carolina during the 1970s was the icing on the cake as I was able to take in races at North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, Charlotte, Talledega and Darlington. Junior Johnson and David Pearson were two of my favorites. Now they are both in a better place. Thank you fellows for giving me memories I'll never forget and racing will not be the same without you.

Junior Johnson is a man of integrity who's dignity was never to be challenged! Junior was a hard working and caring man through out his life. "Junior Johnson's legacy "the draft man" will live on for as long as racing lives! I respect the mans skills

My most deepest and sincere condolences to the Johnson Family and Thank them for sharing Junior with us.

Growing up in the Midwest, I adapted Juniors style of driving for the snowy winter and the cat & mouse games with my buddies, I was untouchable !

My prayers were acknowledged when TV started showing the races, and everyone knew that ' Look ' from Junior as it was all about the race.

Rest in Peace Junior

Lisa, kids, Steve and family,
Truly sorry to hear of Juniors passing, he truly was a good man and an icon. I will always remember coming to the race shops with and to the house when it was being built with Steve and Junior always treated me like he had known me all my life. Know you are in my prayers for peace and comfort.

Junior was not perfect, but no man is. He was a compassionate friend who helped so many employees and friends throughout the southeast. My dad and I stopped by the race shop on the way home from Baptist Hospital, where the Cancer Doctor had told dad there was nothing else that could be done. Junior told dad, "If you want to go to Mayo or Walter Reed to see what they say, just let me know and I will have a jet ready for you to go. That friendship means a lot to me still today. So many fans got to see him at racetracks, but I was so lucky to be able to call him friend.

My dad and I were leaving the NWS after a race in the late 70's. We were looking for an alternative route back to 421. We stopped at an old store for a minute. Little did we know it was across the street from Junior's home. They told us to pull around back, Junior wouldn't care. They were right. Junior came out of his house and posed for pictures with us. Junior really was The Last American Hero.

Growing up in North and South Carolina in the 50's and 60's, my father was a huge NASCAR fan and I had the opportunity to see races in Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Shelby. Martinsville and we had a box on the backstretch at Darlington during what I consider the Gold Age of NASCAR. Junior Johnson was a true "Super Star". I am 70 years old now and I can still remember JJ running until he won or the car failed. So many great memories! Rest in Peace....You will always be remembered.

I walked into the ABC store and grabbed a 100 proof jar of Moonlight and started declaring my loyalty to Junior Johnson and the gal behind the counter said I heard news earlier that Junior passed on. That's how I found out. I went home did boilermakers and cried watching videos of JJ on youtube. I saw him race in 1962 in a Cotton Owens Pontiac at my 1st NASCAR event at the CMS World 600. He alone turned out to be the biggest reason I still support NASCAR 100%. I still drive with my arm on the ledge of the window in JJ mode! I'm the Metrolina Kid from Cramerton NC and a proud Dixie Boy. Full of red clay dirt from just breathing at the tracks and proud to sign Mr. Johnson's Legacy. He is my hero. Celebrate him! He earned the the iconic status. He is loved and missed.
