Robert Reid Obituary

Robert O. Reid
January 6, 1929 - May 29, 2022
Greensboro, North Carolina - Robert Owen Reid, 93, died suddenly at his home in Friends Home Guilford, Greensboro on Sunday 29 May 2022.
He was born on 6 January 1929 to James Willis Reid and Nancy Warren in Rocky Mount, NC. He grew up in Whitakers, NC, where he was educated through high school. He attended Campbell College before getting his degree from Wake Forest College in 1952.
Soon after graduation, Bob joined the Army and then the National Guard, where he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant.
He sold electrical equipment for 30 years for Graybar Electric Company in Rocky Mount, Raleigh, and Charlotte. He moved to Greensboro in 1997. He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed golf.
Bob was a life-long Baptist and served as Deacon to all the congregations to which he belonged, as well as in many other capacities. One of his greatest joys was serving in preschool Sunday School at Carmel Baptist Church in Charlotte. He volunteered in many organizations over the years, including Meals on Wheels in Greensboro.
The family is grateful for the wonderful neighbors he had wherever he lived, and for his church family at Friendly Ave Baptist Church. He loved living at Friends Home for the past three years, making many new friends and enjoying its activities, especially cornhole!
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia G. Reid. He is survived by son R. Kent Reid and wife, Debra Allen-Reid, of Las Vegas, NM; daughter Nanette Osborne and husband, James C. Osborne, of Greensboro; Grandsons Robert Kyle Osborne (Brittany) and Caleb Thomas Osborne (Abbey) of Durham and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:15 pm at the church before the service.
Memorials may be made to Friendly Avenue Baptist Church, 4800 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410.
Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel is serving the family.

It was our blessing to be with Bob on service projects at Friendly Avenue Baptist Church. Rarely do you meet a true gentleman whom you instantly identify with and feel like you have known for many years. Heaven will be even better with Bob and we will see him again. Our prayers for comfort go out to all who mourn his passing.

Bob Reid was a dear friend and Christian brother to Judy and me. We knew Bob through Friendly Ave. Baptist church, and had many great days on the golf course playing golf with Bob. He was a great man of God and always was a true southern gentleman to everyone he met. He will surely be missed by us and all of the friends he made over the years here in Greensboro, NC. Praying for his family that God will comfort and bless them all. I know that Bob is with his Blessed Saviour at this time, and we and his family will see him again in Heaven. Thanks.....Bob & Judy Wofford
