Rose Crowley Obituary

Rose Mary Crowley passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 19th, 2017. Born on July 16th, in Bellaire, Ohio, Rose Mary was the daughter of the late Cyril and Catherine Browning. She spent her years growing up in Ohio, but left for a career as a stewardess for Eastern Airlines. After working in Washington, D.C., Rose Mary was based in Charlotte. She was in Charlotte for six months when she met the love of her life, Jack Crowley. This is where she began the most important career of her life - a loving wife to Jack and the most wonderful selfless mother to seven children and grandmother to 17 grandchildren. Little did Rose Mary know she would soon be an authority on many sports events, school plays, choir performances, concerts, baptisms, first holy communions and weddings. She enjoyed playing tennis and walked every day. Rose Mary cherished the time spent with her family. Her family was her life and legacy.

A charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, she was a devout Catholic and served with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for many years. Rose Mary's faith was extremely important to her and she did her best to live by it. Her faith gave her great strength.

Rose Mary was preceded in death by her true love, best friend and husband of 58 years, Jack Crowley. She was devoted to her children Ann, Prudy, Katherine, Sean, Elizabeth, Michael, and Patricia; adored grandchildren Kate, Mary, Anna, Caroline (David), Matthew, Rebecca, Scott, Rose Mary, Michael, Sally, Katherine, Jack, Gibson, Chris, Lyla, and Henry; sons-in-laws Tim, Chris, Robert, Gib, and daughter-in-law Joyce. Rose Mary is also survived by brother-in-law's Tom and Bill Crowley; sister-in-law's Ann Crowley and Dottie Browning, nieces and nephews, Marion and Dan Scherger, Todd Crowley, Julie Kanyuch, Jay and John Browning, Beth Keough and Max Yost. Also preceding Rose Mary in death were her grandson John Kornegay, her brothers Jack and Jerry Browning, and sister Prudence Yost.

Rose Mary was known for her beautiful smile and kind heart. In her honor, take a moment today to smile at a stranger or perform a small act of kindness for someone. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC, 28210, by Father Mark Lawlor, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the above address.

For Ann, Prudy, Katherine, Sean, Elizabeth, Michael, and Patricia... I am so incredibly sad to hear of your precious mother's passing. She was an incredible woman. I can't think of my childhood without smiling of the memories of both your parents. They brought so much light and happiness to all of us that were fortunate enough to know them. You all are in my thoughts and prayers always.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. Your parents raised a beautiful family. I spoke to them both at my father-in-law, Joe Valalik's' birthday party some years ago and they were so lovely and proud of all of you. Your family is a great legacy. Wishing you peace.
