Ruby Rankin Obituary
Mrs. Rankin, 88, of Charlotte, NC died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at her home, following a period of declining health. She was born on Sunday, March 28, 1920 in North Carolina, the daughter of the late William Noah Stokes and Martha Pollard Stokes of Charlotte.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pinkney Ray Rankin; her son, Michael Ray Rankin, and her brother, William N. Stokes, Jr.
She was a graduate of Central High School in Charlotte and was a Charter member of Myers Park Baptist Church. After many years of service, she retired from the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
Mrs. Rankin is survived by her daughter, Martha Ann Rankin of Chapel Hill, NC and her faithful friend Charlie.
A service by the graveside will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dear Martha:
I have so many precious memories of the time I spent with your Mom and Charlie. Getting to know you and them has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Your Mom was one of the sweetest, most considerate people I have ever known and I feel honored to have been able to help take care of her and get to know her as a friend.

I worked in the Lab next door to XRay over 40+ years ago and I remember the kindness your mom showed me when I popped into the XRay Dept everyday to say hello to her and my friend, Kim Emerson. She was always happy and gracious.

It's been a long journey. We traveled some of it side by side. Both our Dads, and then our Moms. Our thoughts are with you. Ruby was the luckiest Mom in the world to have you as her daughter.

I worked with your Mother in the x-ray department many years ago and had lots of wonderful memories. Ruby was always full of life and her personality flowed into a circle of friends. She was a great person and a devoted Mother to her children. May you find peace and know that she will be missed by all that knew her. My thoughts and prayers in this time of sorrow are with you and your loved ones.
